New album out TODAY from the Kill Rock Stars signees. Playing Sasquatch. KRS president Portia Sabin said the band takes the label back to its roots, which makes sense, 'cuz they sound so Kill Rock Stars it's not even funny.

Some Mary Timony to start your morning off. The Ex Hex record came out back in 2014 on Merge. Maybe check out this vintage Helium video from '95, from when Timony was signed to Matador: www.youtube.com.
...
No-one named Niki in the band, because what's the difference. Off Niki & The Dove's last record, Everybody's Heart is Broken Now, which came out back in May. Niki has a killer voice.
...
Off the first Brazilian Girls record, which came out back in 2005. Christgau gave it one star, but a positive review?- "Trilingual rhythmically, quadrilingual verbally, and they make it all stick." Make up your mind, RC.
...
Oh, Grace Jones. If you're in the mood, check out these photos from Ms. Jones's thirtieth birthday party. Among the attendees: Divine, Andy Warhol, Jerry Hall, and of course Jimmy Baio (Scott's cousin): dangerousminds.net.

Ms. Lanza's playing The Crocodile on June 22nd, in support of her latest album, Oh No. Out on Hyperdub two weeks ago. P4K called it "a gorgeous and deadly pop manifesto," which is some pretty fun hyperbole. Cool record for sure though.
...
Such a good record from Will Toledo. Evidently Ric Ocasek pulling his approval for a Cars homage cost Matador 50k, which has to be some pretty bad PR for Ocasek. That's a lot of Yo La Tengo records. Ocasek's prolly too busy rolling in money to care.
...
Cool new record from Mountains and Rainbows out on the great Castle Face Records (owned by John Dwyer). The band has been around for 10 years, but only recently signed to the label after opening for Thee Oh Sees.
...
Such good cover art for the single on this one (not what's on the playlist). Google it. Nick Lowe played guitar and bass on this song. That dude has his grubby little fingers in so many amazing things.

Music that makes you think it's sunny out, but then you look at the world around you and realize it's all garbage. Nice try, Alvvays. Pronounced "always," but the band's double-v band-name earns them indie cred.
...
New solo record from Gaslight Anthem frontman Brian Fallon. Fallon has recorded five records with the Gaslight Anthem, which have an average score of 6.2 on P4K (for whatever that's worth to you).
...
Our friends at Wikipedia say that The Mats "were a notoriously wayward live act, often performing under the influence of alcohol." Feels a little judgy there, Wikipedia. Watch your tone. Off the Tim LP from '85.

Track from local great Rachel Flotard. Visqueen called it quits back in 2011 with a few farewell shows, which is a shame. Excited for their Coachella reunion in five years or so. Let's hope Rachel's doing well though.

Sounding like The Posies, which is fitting. The band's last record sounded like My Bloody Valentine or something, so they're feeling a little more poppy on this record. Still heavy, but maybe their anti-depressants are working more. Playing The Tractor on June 17th.
...

Cool new record from America's Sweetheart & Glam Rock protege Kyle Craft, out on Sub Pop now. Craft's first record was a Bowie best-of collection, which is so not surprising. It bleeds into his music.

Big Thief's debut LP, out on Saddle Creek. Sharon Van Etten's a fan, which makes sense, I guess? Good cover art on this one too, if you're into that type of thing.

Cool music out on Sacred Bones from Dream Police (made up of the frontmen of NY band The Men). Those guys pop out records like no-one's business-- none since 2014 though, so maybe they're taking a break.

Off the 35 hour Grateful Dead comp Day of the Dead. So many jams on this record, you'd think it was a Paul Weller concert. Just kidding-- Paul probably hates the Grateful Dead. This track comes from the sprightly Lucius.

Ms. Jenny Lewis has the most lovely voice. This track off Lewis's third solo record, titled The Voyager. Unknown if Lewis herself is The Voyager, or if she's referring to someone else. We'll e-mail her.

Track from the dear, departed group Girls, who released two LPs & 1 EP before their 2012 disollution. This one's from the Broken Dreams Club EP. Christopher Owens is still making music, mostly recently 2015's Chrissybaby Forever.

This record has some quite good cover art-- very faux-vintage in a pretty excellent way. The music's pretty good too. Off the No Illusions record, which came out back in April. This track's called "Queen Supreme" which sounds like a Marc Bolan track name.

Off the Strange Free World record, from 1991. Ever felt like you've heard a song before, but can't figure out what it is? It's probably this track. Produced by the same dude who recorded a few Echo & The Bunnymen LPs.
...
Oh, Kristin Hersh. The great Ms. Hersh most recently released music under the 50FootWave moniker. She also wrote a book last year, because her creative spirit cannot be qualmed. This track heads off The Real Ramona from 1991.

Track from the first Art of Noise LP, aptly titled (Who's Afraid Of?) The Art of Noise. This track was the highest charting single off the LP, peaking at No. 8 on the UK Charts. Similar the band's hit "Beat Box" from a year earlier.
...
What does Bernard Sumner do in his free time? Does he knit? Does Bernie play Spider Solitaire? That's an MTV Behind the Music episode waiting to happen. This track comes off the 1985 New Order LP, titled Low-Life.
...
Undervalued Sonic Youth LP. Some great Kim Gordon fronted tracks for sure. Released back in 2004. This track, "Pattern Recognition," was based on a William Gibson novel of the same name. This was during the Jim O'Rourke period for the band.
...
Was anyone as cool as Alan Vega? That dude had his aesthetic down. And the sunglasses on Martin Rev are beyond killer. Surprisingly, James Murphy is fan of this record, saying "Cheree" will be his first dance at his wedding.

Likely one of the best records of the year. Sort of diabolically well produced. Debut LP from the 23-year-old DJ/Producer Kaytranada. He opened for Madonna on a few Rebel Heart tour dates, which is pretty weird.

Playing The Sunset Tavern on June 11th. The artist describes her music as "gothic country music," which feels about right. Cool vibes on this one. Pitchfork acclaimed. This is her debut LP following an EP.

Negativland must've been frustrated when Orwells named their LP Disgraceland. Assuming Negativland aren't lost in the set for the No Other Possibility video, wandering adrift amidst static.

From the debut Luscious Jackson LP, out on the Beastie Boys' label Grand Royal. The band took their name from retired basketball player Lucious Jackson. Luscious is a far better name if we're being real here.

Described by drummer Paul Ferguson as "the sound of the Earth vomiting," which sounds pretty good. Arguably ripped off by Nirvana for "Come As You Are," not to rehash old controversies.

Santigold's latest received somewhat mixed reviews from critics, which is too bad. Many collaborators on this record, including Vampire Weekend's Rostam, Dave Sitek & Yeah Yeah Yeah's Nick Zinner.

The 8th studio record from King Gizzard & co. Playing Sasquatch this weekend. Likely to be the band's breakout record, and easily their most critically acclaimed to date. Described as "a never-ending album" by the band.
