Performing at KEXP and the Crocodile on February 14th, Austra is an electronic music project from Toronto, Ontario, founded by Katie Stelmanis in 2009. Maya Postepski, also contributes on the recordings. A live band consists of Postepski on drums, Dorian Wolf on bass and moog, and Ryan Wonsiak on keyboards. They previously also featured the twin backing singers Sari and Romy Lightman of Tasseomancy. The band have released three albums, two EPs and a number of singles, with the first two albums reaching the Billboard Heatseekers album chart

Rainer Maria is a three piece emo band from Madison, Wisconsin, later residing in Brooklyn, New York, originally active from 1995 to 2006. Named after the German-language poet Rainer Maria Rilke, Caithlin De Marrais, Kaia Fischer and William Kuehn formed the band in late summer of 1995. They released five full-length albums, a live DVD, numerous live recordings, and EPs. In its earlier days, the band had a dual male and female vocal line-up; later, De Marrais would become the lead vocalist in a majority of their songs. The gender ambiguity of the name Rainer Maria paralleled this and was one of the reasons it was selected as the band's name.

The Damnwells were an indie rock band originally from Brooklyn, New York The band formed in 2000 and released five full-length albums, Air Stereo (2006, Epic Records/Rounder Records), Bastards of the Beat (2003, Epic Records), One Last Century (2009, self-released), No One Listens to the Band Anymore (2011, PledgeMusic) and The Damnwells (2015, PledgeMusic). The original members of the Damnwells were Alex Dezen (lead vocals, guitar, piano), David Chernis (lead guitar), Ted Hudson (bass), and Steven Terry (drums/percussion). Steven Terry played drums and recorded with Ryan Adams' original band Whiskeytown on the album Strangers Almanac. Over their 16 year career, they toured extensively throughout the United States and had numerous television and radio appearances. Although David Chernis and Steven Terry left the band from 2007 to 2013, the Damnwells, with core members Alex Dezen and Ted Hudson, still appeared in changing formations during that time.

A self-taught musician, Sprout played with and was a major collaborator to the Dayton, Ohio band Guided By Voices. Employing a four-track recorder and a home studio he contributed to the unique lo-fi sound of Guided by Voices and he was a member of the band from 1987 through 1997. The band frequently recorded in Sprout's home studio, and as a member of the band he contributed as a co-writer, multi-instrumentalist and studio engineer.

Jagwar Ma is an Australian psychedelic dance band formed in Sydney in 2011. It consists of Gabriel Winterfield (lead vocalist, guitarist), Jono Ma (guitar, beats, synths, production), and bass guitarist Jack Freeman, who joined 2012. Holy Ghost! is an American synthpop duo from Brooklyn, New York City, consisting of Nick Millhiser and Alex Frankel. Millhiser and Frankel both grew up on the Upper West Side of New York City and attended elementary school together. They were later part of a hip hop group called Automato. Automato's debut album was produced by James Murphy and Tim Goldsworthy of DFA. After the release of the album, Automato "kind of fell apart". However, Millhiser and Frankel kept working on music. Initially it was going to be more hip hop work, but decided to create music with vocals and poppier arrangements.
