Thursday May 11 at Neumos. Born in Washington, D.C., to a Sudanese father and an African-American mother, Amir Mohamed (Oddisee) grew up in Maryland, influenced by soul and rap, and musicians on both sides of his family.

The former Sonic Youth frontman explains the inspiration for “Cease Fire” - “Guns are designed to kill and we, as non-violent human beings, are against the killing of any person or animal. The song is also about the power of love, in all its freedom of choice. A power that no gun can extinguish as love will rule always. Melt down your guns and kiss your neighbor.”

Big Star was an American power pop band formed in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1971 by Alex Chilton, Chris Bell, Jody Stephens, and Andy Hummel. The group broke up in 1974, and reorganized with a new line-up nearly 20 years later. Though both Chilton and Hummel died in 2010, leaving Stephens the sole surviving founding member, the band’s influence lives on. Big Star was inducted into the Memphis Music Hall of Fame in 2014.

Active from the 1970s on, Horace Swaby aka Augustus Pablo, was a Jamaican roots reggae and dub record producer, melodica player and keyboardist, who popularized the use of the melodica in reggae music.
The Pharcyde formed in 1989 in South Central Los Angeles. The four original members are Imani (Emandu Wilcox), Slimkid3 (Trevant Hardson), Bootie Brown (Romye Robinson), and Fatlip (Derrick Stewart). DJ Mark Luv was the first DJ, followed by producer J-Swift and then J Dilla.
