De La's back catalogue had been absent from streaming services for many years since many of the samples in their music had only been cleared for use on physical copies of their records. Warner, who had owned the rights to De La's music until 2017, had been reluctant to try to clear these samples and renegotiate contracts. After several disputes and the rights trading hands a number of times, it was only until June 2021 when Reservoir Media bought Tommy Boy Records (who owned the catalog at the time) that the clearance process could begin.
