Bonobo's new album, 'Fragments' is set to release in January 2022 and features the talents of artists like Jamila Woods, Kadha Bonet, and Joji. Woods said of her participation on "Tides":
"I connected with the track as soon as I heard it. It felt like rain and waves to me before I even knew the project had a theme of cycles and tides, so it all came together very organically.”

When Columbian duo Simón Mejía and Liliana Saumet had nearly finished recording their latest LP, the group took part in an age-old ritual: a pagamento, or payment. It’s a ceremony “to pay back what you have taken from the Earth". Bomba Estéreo spent a night making offerings and sharing profound conversation with a mamo, a shaman of the Arhuaco people. J Mascis recalled the story behind "Start Choppin" in an interview with Rolling Stone: "I remember the title came about because we cut the tape to put some different versions together. I think I just said, "Start chopping," or something. All the stops and starts is just how the song was written. I think the edits were just, like, maybe the verse sounded better on one take, so we could end the whole thing. It wasn't very big edits on tape; it was little things. It was just like one verse or another."

'This one started out as an idea to mix Afrobeat with Giorgio Moroder–style synth vibes. The end section with Alfred’s korego (Ghanaian 2-stringed folk guitar) solo was already there when we got into the studio, but then we added the big kick drum that happens underneath and Owen from Hot Chip’s crazy drum machine percussion at the end, which gave it a futuristic Afro feel when mixed with the more talking drum parts'

James Thomas Ramey aka Baby Huey, was a Chicago rock and soul singer. He was the frontman for Baby Huey & the Babysitters, whose timeless LP was influential in the development of hip hop music. The group's only album, 'The Baby Huey Story: The Living Legend" was released by Curtis Mayfield's Curtom Records in 1971 after Huey's premature death at age 26.
With his new remix album, Deciphering The Message, the Chicago-based drummer, producer, and beat scientist Makaya McCraven puts a modern bounce on Blue Note classics by Art Blakey, Bobby Hutcherson, and Clifford Brown, among others. Today, McCraven unveils the album’s 3rd single “Sunset” (AKA “Son Set”), which remakes a deep cut by the underrecognized trumpeter and composer Kenny Dorham from his 1961 album Whistle Stop featuring Hank Mobley on tenor saxophone, Kenny Drew on piano, Paul Chambers on bass, and Philly Joe Jones on drums. McCraven’s new version layers on his own drums and also features Jeff Parker on guitar, Joel Ross on vibraphone, and Junius Paul on ceramic bird. bit.ly

Over a decade into their existence, Chastity Belt remains true to itself. It’s a joke told in a college town that became a living, breathing rock band. It’s a quartet of four friends–Julia Shapiro, Lydia Lund, Gretchen Grimm, and Annie Truscott–in dialogue with each other and the world. Across four albums to dazzling effect, their work stands as a deeply moving extended meditation on parties, relationships, power dynamics, sincerity, and aging–all delivered without even a hint of heavy-handedness.
“Fake” / “Fear” the band’s new single, picks up where their self-titled fourth album left off. “Fear”’s snarling riff, soaring chorus, and Moby-Dick imagery came to singer and guitarist Lydia Lund after she dreamt of what she described as “gut-wrenching fear” caused by a “neverending series of unknowns.”
