In January 2020, as she accepted a Grammy award for her album "Celia," Angelique Kidjo said, "The new generations of artists coming from Africa [are] going to take you by storm. "The time has come." It seemed as though Kidjo, who's originally from Benin, was anointing a generation of younger artists across Africa – and now, she's brought many of them together on a new album, called "Mother Nature." The list includes Nigerian artist Burna Boy, who was also nominated for a Grammy behind his 2019 album African Giant. Many of Mother Nature's songs address issues across the world, from climate change to state oppression and police violence.: n.pr

Most videos for the songs on "Kick" had slick special effects and lots of glamour shots of the band, especially Michael Hutchence. The "Mystify" video took a different approach, opening with a scene where Hutchence and Andrew Farriss are composing the song at a piano. It feels very authentic - Hutchence is wearing a tank top and has his hair in a ponytail as he directs Farriss through his lyric. When the drums come in, we switch scenes and see the full band recording the song. "One of the things I really love about that video is it looks like the band I played in, not just some fantasy video," Farriss said. "That's pretty much what the guys' personalities were like and how we dressed in those years. It's a more natural-looking video of us during that period.": bit.ly.

Wolf Alice is coming to the Showbox Market on October 25th! bit.ly -- "Smile" was inspired by lead singer Ellie Rowsell’s desire to fight back against those who try to define her. “It’s about people that make assumptions about you,” she said. “This is one of the songs we wrote thinking that we would play it live." bit.ly -- Watch Wolf Alice channel their inner punk in the video: youtu.be

Bachelor, the new project from Melina Duterte (Jay Som) and Ellen Kempner (Palehound), is not a band, it’s a friendship. bachelortheband.bandcamp.com -- Here’s what Kempner had to say about the track: I wrote the lyrics to “Stay In the Car” back in December of 2019 when I was in Florida for my partner’s top surgery. I had run out one afternoon, post op, while he was healing to grab lunch for us and as I was gathering my stuff in the parking lot, a big car pulled up and this absolutely beautiful woman got out. She was dressed all in red, dripping with jewelry and had the most wild fiery mane I’d ever seen. She was yelling at the man behind the wheel asking him what he wanted from the store and I wished I was that man. I wanted to be a part of her life, her best friend, her driver, whatever she wanted me to be. I was completely mesmerized." bit.ly -- youtu.be

In a 1994 interview, it was suggested that "Seether" could either be about female "animalistic instincts" or bouts of rage. Vocalist Nina Gordon agreed that her songs' meanings often changed during and after the writing process. "You write a song, think it's about one thing for five minutes....and discover that it's about many different things and working on many different levels."

Jenn Champion + Oyster Kids are sharing “Love Nobody,” a new lyric video for the title track from their forthcoming collaborative EP. The three-song, Love Nobody EP (Hardly Art) to be released June 29th, 2021, is packed with as many sexy synth lines and longing looks, much like an 80s teen movie. The project was born when Champion met Andrew Eapen (Oyster Kids) at a party shortly after she moved to LA. They became fast friends once they realized they shared a passion for sad pop songs. The two started writing music together only a few weeks later, and the song “Love Nobody” materialized in their very first session. Champion says, “‘Love Nobody’ is about the fear of falling so hard for someone when you know it’s destined to crash and burn. Those crushes where it feels like your heart is cannibalizing your brain. We’ve all been there when you look into someone’s eyes and know they will destroy you, and yet, nothing can pull you away. You are all in. You hate it and have never wanted anything more.”
