Great article by Ripped to Shreds Andrew Lee about ending racial stereotypes against Asian Americans in metal for Decibel Magazine: www.decibelmagazine.com
This Seattle trio’s fourth album is their strongest and most diverse outing to date, ranging from driving garage-punk and grungy screamo to moody indie-rock and soaring psych-rock, with consistently well-crafted songs combining ringing guitars, muscular rhythms, dynamic vocals and catchy song hooks.
In a 1998 intervie, O'Connor told The Tech, "Mandinkas are an African tribe. They're mentioned in a book called Roots by Alex Haley, which is what the song is about. In order to understand it you must read the book."

"['Smile'] is about people that make assumptions about you," Ellie Rowsell has revealed. "This is one of the songs we wrote thinking that we would play it live. I miss that feeling of singing on stage. It’s like screaming into a pillow or something — you can get away with being more nasty. There’s a whole other part of me missing."
The London band are gearing up to release the follow up to Mercury Prize-winning, A Visions Of Life, with their third album, Blue Weekend, set to arrive on June 11th via Dirty Hit.
Previously commenting on the record, Rowsell said: "This album is for other people. Sometimes you hear a song and it makes you feel better, or you hear a song and it makes you feel seen. I remember feeling blue about something, and thinking, 'I wonder what songs I can listen to that will be about what I’m feeling right now.'" bit.ly

Dave Prater of Sam & Dave was born on this day back in 1937. He passed away in a car crash in 1988, but he would have been 84 years old today.
Modest Mouse will return in June with The Golden Casket, their seventh record, and marking their first new album in six years.
Produced with Dave Sardy and Jacknife Lee in Los Angeles and Modest Mouse’s Portland studio, the record is said to reflect "the liminal space between raw punk power and experimental studio science," according to an official release. "The twelve tracks behave like amorphous organisms, undergoing dramatic mutations and mood swings that speak to the chronic tug-of-war between hope and despair that plays out in frontman [Isaac] Brock’s head." bit.ly

Former Faith No More frontman Chuck Mosley co-wrote their parody of the Live Aid generation of rock superstars. In this interview, he tells the story behind the song: www.loudersound.com
"'John L,' off this London collective's forthcoming album 'Cavalcade,' is performed as a fiery song-poem by black midi vocalist/guitarist Geordie Greep. The lyrics depict a society that falls under the spell of a hellish deity; a cult leader spinning a web of mass destruction and fear, rendering the entire group subservient and powerless."

"The video, directed by Nina McNeely, is a batsh**t psychedelic homage to Fritz Lang’s Metropolis, 2001: A Space Odyssey…and quite possibly, the Teletubbies? You’re going to have to sit down for this one. The stunning Busby Berkley-meets-The Lorax choreography and striking visuals, mixed with the droll snarl of Greep is truly a sight to behold.": www.youtube.com
In the P-Funk galaxy, "Mothership Connection" is the band’s brightest star. Recognizing its brilliance, the Library Of Congress added the album to the National Recording Registry in 2011, noting, “The album has had an enormous influence on jazz, rock and dance music.” Enjoy a tribute to his masterpiece: www.udiscovermusic.com

""Wolf Like Me" fully captures what TV on the Radio was doing with 'Return to Cookie Mountain'. It takes that album’s signature dark, fuzzy indie-rock style, adds lyrics that touch on both the fantastic and the mundane, and wraps it all up in a tidy, four-minute, 39-second package—and it’s one hell of ride." "Galanin is Tlingit and Unangax̂; he creates from his perspective as an Indigenous man. His work calls for an accounting of the damages done to land and life by unfettered capitalism while envisioning and advocating alternate possibilities."
