Bradford Cox was hit by a car in early December. Hopefully he is recovering well, but this has really thrown off his album-per-year streak. This track closes off the Halcyon Digest release.
Ride recently reunited, and early reports suggest they sound pretty excellent. No Seattle dates as of yet, but there are dates in major US cities (see: NYC, B-TOWN). This track comes from their sophomore effort, Going Blank Again.
Most of the songs on Urban Hymns were originally intended for a different project, after Verve fractured due to conflicts between Richard Ashcroft and Nick McCabe. Looks like they patched things up pretty well.

This song was officially released in 2009, as part of the Around the Well compilation. That LP also features covers of Stereolab (!), Flaming Lips, and New Order. It appeared on the Garden State soundtrack (a Zach Braff joint).

Moby recorded a cover of Joy Division's "New Dawn Fades" for the soundtrack to Michael Mann's Heat, which is pretty cool. His most recent album, Innocents, was released back in 2013. Damien Jurado's on this particular track.

Hunky Dory was Bowie's fourth LP, and was his highest charting LP to date (#3 in the UK). Amazingly, "Changes" did not enter the Top 40. The album's cover art was inspired by a photo of Marlene Dietrich.

Hot Chip will be part of the 2015 Sasquatch Music Festival. For Why Make Sense, Hot Chip wrote all the songs in three-four days, to ensure "[they] didn't work the life and soul out of it," according to Joe Goddard.
This track was originally intended for the Apollonia 6 LP (the Prince-penned showcase for Apollonia), but was pulled for inclusion on the Purple Rain soundtrack. It's a duet between Prince & Apollonia, but Lisa sang on the track to bolster her vocals.
The music video for this track is insane- all Courtney Taylor haircuts and mood-lighting. "We Used to be Friends" was the first single off Welcome to the Monkey House (the band's fourth LP). The single featured covers of Blondie and Frankie Goes to Hollywood.
As heard on the O.C. Spoon will be at Sasquatch Music Festival this upcoming weekend. The band was named after a Can track of the same name, (which was the theme song to the 1985 German film Das Messer).
Built to Spill will be headlining this year's Capital Hill Block Party. The band's first album in six years, Untethered Moon, was released last month. It has received good reviews in spite of its dubious cover art.
Of Monsters and Men is another band playing this year's Sasquatch Music Festival. The band will release a new LP, Beneath the Skin, in mid-June. Three singles have been released so far, most recently "Empire."
World Party will be at The Triple Door on June 11th. Karl Wallinger started the project in 1986 after leaving The Waterboys. This track comes from his third LP, Bang!, released in 1993.

Nadine Shah just released her sophomore album, titled Fast Food. She gets compared to PJ Harvey a lot, possibly because she is a) a woman, and b) British? She has some Siouxse Sioux in her blood too.
Is Patti Smith the coolest person alive? Top 5 at least. Patti will release a new memoir this fall, titled M Train. It will features 18 "stations" of Smith's life, as well as black-and-white Polaroids taken by Smith at the time.
At the time, one reviewer compared It's Blitz! to Eat to the Beat-era Blondie, which seems like a good comparison. "Heads Will Roll" also remains one of the few songs not ruined by Glee.
Best Coast will be at The Showbox on June 4th, supported by Bully. The band just released their third full-length album, titled California Nights. It's not known how Snacks the Cat is doing at the moment.
This track comes from Peter Murphy's 1989 solo LP, Deep. It was his most successful solo effort. Also, Peter Murphy has apparently lived in Turkey for the past 20 years. Whether he is aware of this can not be confirmed.
This track originally appeared on one of the more sinister Nick Cave albums, Let Love In. A (possibly fake) documentary about Mr. Cave, 20,000 Days on Earth, was released last year. It is quite good.

Jon Spencer will DJ this Friday at 12PM on Midnight in a Perfect World on KEXP. Unknown whether or not the BLUES Explosion will join him. Let's hope so. Their new LP is titled Freedom Tower- No Wave Dance Party 2015.
Alabama Shakes will be at Marymoor Park on Aug. 8th. The band is also playing some dates with Father John Misty. The band's sophomore LP, Sound & Color, was released last month.

Happy Birthday to Joey Ramone! Prior to his Ramones success, Ramone appeared in a band called Sniper under the name Jeff Starship. He started the Ramones in 1974.
Leave Home was Ramones second LP. A month prior to the album's release, the band was forced to remove the track "Carbona Not Glue" from the release, because Carbona was a registered trademark. (Copyright minutia stories).
"Teenage Lobotomy" is about a teenager forced to have a lobotomy due to brain damage from overdosing on DDT. It is now available on Rock Band, which seems ironic.
Happy Birthday to Malcolm X! This track samples Malcolm X, along with Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan. "Bring the Noise" was later covered by Anthrax. It cannot be confirmed how enjoyable the cover is.
Released in 1999, The Battle of Los Angeles was the third LP from Rage Against the Machine. The song's lyrics reference George Orwell's 1984. The original cover art of the single featured the 1968 Olympics Black Power Salute.

"Dear God" was originally released as a b-side to "Grass," but was included on the Skylarking album after being played by US DJs. The opening and closing verses are sung by the 8-year-old Jasmine Veillette. She was played by a boy in the music video.
