As a child, Neko Case spent a lot of time moving but spent a majority of her childhood in Tacoma, Washington. She left her parents at age 15 and started playing drums in the Northwest punk scene. It wasn't until 1997 when she released her solo debut, 'The Virginian' with her backing band, "The Boyfriends".
Loretta Lynn's career spans almost 60 years and remains the most awarded female country artist. 'Van Lear Rose' was produced by The White Stripes' Jack White and he is also featured on this track.
Tom Waits has always been weird and wild, amplifying the lyricism of low-life characters in his signature raspy voice. Waits sings "The Soul of A Man' paying tribute to Blind Willie Johnson.

'Sixteen Tambourines' is the 1983 debut of The Three O'Clock a prominent band in LA's 1980s "Paisley Underground" scene. Lead singer and bassist Michael Quercio coined the Paisley Underground term to describe this subset of groups including The Bangles, Rain Parade, and Dream Syndicate.
