Listener request! "America" was inspired by a five-day road excursion Simon undertook in September 1964 with his girlfriend Kathy Chitty. Instead of going to the studio to finalize the mixes for the band's debut "Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M.", the couple drove - forgetting the album - and spending five days driving the country together.
Fun Fact: Janes Addiction opted to record their debut album live in an attempt to better capture the energy they were known for. This album's basic tracks were recorded live at the Roxy Theatre in Los Angeles in January of 1987, with additional overdubs and corrections added later!
