Ash Wednesday is sequenced chronologically-- the album's first half is songs written by Perkins before 9/11 (and the passing of his mother), the second half is tracks written after the attacks. This is track seven-- the Side B Track 1, if you will.

Pitchfork described The Amazing's most recent LP, 2015's Picture You, as "earthy, molten, aquatic," which is actually a pretty annoying descriptor for a record. Their new one, Ambulance, will be released later this week.
...
Into this new record from Neko Case, k.d. lang, and Laura Veirs. Saw them live a few weeks ago, which was pretty fun-- k.d. lang's dance moves were on point. As was the banter between lang and Case. Laura Veirs's voice has never sounded better.

Reportedly Lou Barlow of Sebadoh's favorite record of 1996, according to a Sub Pop mailer. Could just be conjecture, but doesn't seem too hard to believe. Was the Sunny Day Real Estate frontman's first solo LP.

Stay Tuned all morning for more Replacements gives! Records will be given away every hour! Of course leading up to tonight's Replacements event in the Gathering Space with Bob Mehr & Twin/Tone founder Peter Jespersen.

Like high key ideal kids music. I probably would've turned out better if I had grown up on this. Wayne borrowed the melody of "Fight Test" from Cat Stevens, and has said in interviews that now all the royalties from that track go to Cat.

Preoccupations will be playing Neumos on November 2nd with Methyl Ethyl, where they will collectively shred. No doubt about it. A quite anticipated record from the band fka Viet Cong, to be released on September 16th.
...
Everyone's favorite misogynist will release a new album, Skeleton Tree, on September 9th of this year. Been listening to those early Birthday Party record as of late, and they're sort of amazing. Sloppy, angry.
...
This record has been getting some amazing buzz. DJ Hans- approved. Some are calling it "dazzling." Playing The Showbox on December 8th, which should be a good show.
...
Today's the birthday of both Stone Gossard and Chris Cornell, both of Temple of the Dog. Of course, that's why they formed the band-- it was completely based on astrological compatibility.
...
Song that should make you cry just a little. Also features Stone Gossard, whose birthday it is today. In that movie Hype, Jack Endino calls Andy Wood "the only stand-up comedian frontman in Seattle." RIP Andy Wood.
...
Break out your 90s psychedelic of choice! It's Courtney Taylor-Taylor's birthday! To celebrate, all day KEXP d.j.s will be getting into on-air fights and throwing stuff in the booth. Dig!, the great movie about the Dandys & Brian Jonestown Massacre is at Northwest Film Forum 7/29-31.

Still such a jam. That dude can write such a melody. It IS Tim Showalter's birthday, which makes today even better. From 2014's Heal album, which got quite of a lot of play. Still does.
...
Off the 2011 full-length from Lonely Forest, Arrows, which was their third album overall. They broke up back in 2014, shortly following a farewell performance at Bumbershoot.
...
Hopefully you were at the Mitski show at The Crocodile last Wednesday, where I was shaking and sobbing, watching other millennials shake and sob. Mitski killed it. Japanese Breakfast also killed it.

Such a good live band. They killed it at Neumos last year. Also a mind-boggling attractive band. Will blow away your conceptions of how beautiful humans can be. Theo, man. From their 2015 LP My Love Is Cool.

Possible mash-up of John Vanderslice's tracks "Pale Horse" and "White Dove"? Hard to research this. From a set John Vanderslice played on The Morning Show a few years back.

A song forever to be associated with the sous chef's Youtube playlist blasted while I wash dishes every Sunday morning/afternoon. Not the best association. Likely better than my associations with the Pulp Fiction soundtrack though.

Likely among the best records released this year? Gotta love Dan Boeckner. That guy's just the best. Wolf Parade's playing two nights at The Neptune (August 7-8). Here's a vid of Operators playing Blue Wave tracks at Iceland Airwaves: bit.ly.

Sounds sorta like that old Stone Roses song, but it's new, because they've reunited. Have a friend who saw them in the UK, and said they were great. She probably would have loved it no matter what though.

A 40 minute track. From a less loved Blur record, 13. Has some good songs on it for sure, though. "Coffee & TV" is a jam. Was recorded following Damon's break-up with Elastica frontwoman/long-time girlfriend Justine Frischmann.

Arguably the crown jewel of the current 4AD roster? Certainly feels that way at the moment. I just can't quit that Bradford Cox. Saw him live as part of the Fading Frontier tour, and there were some serious Talking Heads Stop Making Sense vibes going on, I tell you.

Flight of the Conchords is finishing up a tour of the US, which included a date at Marymoor Park about a month ago. Reports were that it was pretty strong. Tribute, of course, to Bowie.
...
Arguably the only true Wednesday song? Can't think of any others off the top of my head, but I'm not trying that hard. As featured on the debut Flight of the Conchords LP which came out on Sub Pop back in 2008.
...
Flock of Seagulls' fourth single, which wasn't as commercially successful? Oh, but that hair though? You should Google that at least one time today. Not making fun of it, it's just plain remarkable.
...
From the third, utterly gorgeous, chaotic Spiritualized album, titled Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space. Still has the capacity to destroy me like few other records. Often a difficult listen, so worth it though.

Well, if Black Francis believes in it, it must be true, right? Certainly holds true for all the tracks on Doolittle. Bossanova too. Not "Um Chagga Lagga" though. From the last Pixies LP, Trompe le Monde.

Christgau's favorite thing going right now, which really does say something. He calls them "grizzled fat Chuck Cleaver and lissome tattooed Lisa Walker," which I sort of love. That dude has a way with mean words.

An album to live by. Still waiting for that new Wrens album to come out. They said it's mastered, so we can presume it's done, but now they're just waiting? Wouldn't surprised me if they scrapped it.
