Doves' inception can be traced back to when members, Williams brothers and Goodwin met in high school at age 15. They were in various local bands until finally winding up together in the form of Doves. 'The Last Broadcast' is their second release from 2002.
Jane's Addiction strung together metal, jazz, punk, and rock and wove together their unique sound starting in the mid 80s.
The Jesus and Mary Chain came to be in 1983 in East Kilbride, Scotland with brothers Jim and William Reid. In an interview regarding their formation, William stated, "It was perfect timing because there weren't any guitar bands. Everybody was making this electronic pop music."

'Into the Wild' is the first solo studio album by Pearl Jam vocalist Eddie Vedder, and is based on his contributions to the soundtrack for the film Into the Wild (2007).

The Chemical Brothers are an English electronic music duo composed of Tom Rowlands and Ed Simons, originating in Manchester in 1989. The dance duo released their latest, 'Born in the Echos' last year and this track also features Beck.
Majical Cloudz is the project of Montreal songwriter Devon Welsh, who joined with Matthew Otto to collaboratively produce and perform his songs. 'Are You Alone?' was released in 2015.
Depeche Mode released their fifth studio record, 'Black Celebration' in March 1986. The album helped to solidify their dark sound crafted by member, Alan Wilder that the group perpetuated in albums Music for the Masses, Violator and Songs of Faith and Devotion.
Jamie xx (also of The XX) is a DJ and Producer who released his solo effort in June 2015. In an article with The Guardian, he learned a lot about producing and himself throughout his past experiences, “Mostly that I like working on my own. But it’s good to push myself.”

You Won’t is the musical duo of Josh Arnoudse and Raky Sastri, who first met in 1999 as fencing partners in a high school production of the Broadway flop “My Favorite Year.” 17 years later, they are now making theatrical music videos and a record titled, 'Revolutionaries' which dropped at the end of April.
The Replacements presented the coming of age record, 'Let It Be' in 1984 via Minneapolis' Twin/Tone Records. Frontman, Paul Westerberg said he wanted to write songs that were "a little more sincere" when comparing the record to 1983's Hootenanny. Comprised of guitarist/vocalist Bill Janovitz, bassist/vocalist Chris Colbourn, and drummer Tom Maginnis, Buffalo Tom came to be in 1989. 'Big Red Letter Day' was their fourth release in 1993.
Early in 1977, the Cars sent a demo tape of "Just What I Needed" to WBCN in Boston and it quickly became the station's most-requested song. For the remainder of 1977, the Cars played Boston clubs, and by the end of the year they signed with Elektra. Their debut dropped in 1978 and featured the hit singles "Just What I Needed", "My Best Friend's Girl", and "Good Times Roll". The Cars stayed on the charts for over two-and-a-half years, delaying the release of the group's second album, and it eventually sold over six million copies.

Connections having been making music together since they were kids living in Dayton, Ohio suburbs. They just released their new record, 'Midnight Run' via Ohio label, Anyway.
Merriweather Post Pavillion featured more vocals than any other Animal Collective record to date and it causes some difficulty in the recording process. "Summertime Clothes" in particular was the track where the band had trouble agreeing with one another about the mix: Brian Weitz (Geologist) explained to Sound to Sound," ‘Summertime Clothes’ is the biggest example of where we disagreed. Even after we finished the record we were still thinking maybe the vocals are too loud on that song. And Ben felt the opposite way."

On this day in 1989, Paul's Boutique came crashing into the world featuring samples from The Ramones, Kool & the Gang, Afrika Bambaataa, and this track in particular features Led Zeppelin and Bob Marley and the Wailers. The Beastie Boys spent approximately $250,000 on sample clearances in the late 1980s for Paul's Boutique...today it would cost millions.
This Led Zeppelin track was sampled in the Beastie Boys track, "Shake Your Rump". "Good Times Bad Times" is the first track featured on Led Zeppelin's debut self-titled record in 1969.
"Buffalo Soldier" is a reggae song written by Bob Marley and Noel "King Sporty" Williams. The title and lyrics refer to the black U.S. cavalry regiments, known as "Buffalo Soldiers", that fought in the Indian Wars after 1866. This track is also sampled in "Shake Your Rump" by The Beastie Boys.

King Khan just dropped a 7" featuring the story of The Invaders, a militant civil rights group from Memphis, Tennessee. King Khan states: "I wrote “Children of the World” as a reaction to the epidemic of police brutality that has infected America for far too long."
Michael Fitzpatrick initially formed the Tantrums as a neo-soul solo project; having purchased an old church organ, he found that it helped inspire his songwriting. Initially The Rentals began as a side-project from Matt Sharp's day job as bassist for Weezer, releasing debut, 'Return of the Rentals' in 1995.
"Jungle Boogie" was recorded by Kool & the Gang for their 1973 album Wild and Peaceful. The song's spoken main vocal was performed by the band's roadie Don Boyce. This song has been repeatedly sampled in popular tracks including: Beastie Boys'"Hey Ladies", Madonna's "Erotica", Janet Jackson's "You Want This" and M/A/R/R/S' "Pump Up the Volume".
Sly & The Family Stone released their third studio album, 'Life' in September 1968. Much of 'Life' has been heavily sampled for hip hop and electronic recordings, including opening riff of "Into My Own Thing" was sampled for Fatboy Slim's 2001 hit "Weapon of Choice".
Before embarking on the tour, film director Spike Lee approached Public Enemy with the proposition of making a song for one of his movies. In an interview with Time, Lee states, "I wanted it to be defiant, I wanted it to be angry, I wanted it to be very rhythmic. I thought right away of Public Enemy". So they crafted this track and bass player Brian Hardgroove talks of its meaning: "Fight the Power is not about fighting authority—it’s not that at all. It’s about fighting abuse of power."
