Merriweather Post Pavillion featured more vocals than any other Animal Collective record to date and it causes some difficulty in the recording process. "Summertime Clothes" in particular was the track where the band had trouble agreeing with one another about the mix: Brian Weitz (Geologist) explained to Sound to Sound," ‘Summertime Clothes’ is the biggest example of where we disagreed. Even after we finished the record we were still thinking maybe the vocals are too loud on that song. And Ben felt the opposite way."

On this day in 1989, Paul's Boutique came crashing into the world featuring samples from The Ramones, Kool & the Gang, Afrika Bambaataa, and this track in particular features Led Zeppelin and Bob Marley and the Wailers. The Beastie Boys spent approximately $250,000 on sample clearances in the late 1980s for Paul's Boutique...today it would cost millions.
