Massive Attack now with more strings. Sounds more like a torch song that one would first expect. Hope Sandoval's at her breathiest, to almost the point of asphyxiation. Those cigs, man.
...
Peaked at No. 31 on the UK Single Charts. No officially announced follow-up to London Grammar's 2013 debut LP If You Wait, they have said they're working on one though. They're quite attractive if you want to look them up.

I always think Beach House's video for "Wild" is the one with Leland Palmer (Ray Wise) and cheerleaders. Instead, it's the super intense one about drug addiction: www.youtube.com.
...
From a Mojo Magazine-curated album of artists covering Power Corruption & Lies in its entirety. Has some Dan Bejar crooning on it, which sometimes is about all one needs.
...
Moby talking about some science on this track. Here's a video of Carl Sagan talking about stars as part of a Cosmos episode in 1980: www.youtube.com.
...
Get it? It's like Obi Wan. Who I realized was a really thinly veiled Christ figure the other day. Come on, Lucas. Not very subtle. New single from Jagwar Ma is their first music since the Howlin LP.
...
Martin Gore used to look like a really well-coiffed baby back in the 80s, it's almost uncanny. "Policy of Truth" was the third single off Violator. While not quite as successful as the first two, it peaked #15 on the Billboard Charts.

Delorean's latest LP Muzik, came out back at the end of June. Doesn't sound entirely different from their previous material. How's that for a pull quote.

Cut Copy's US label originally suggested the band work with Timbaland on this LP. The band went with Tim Goldsworthy, of DFA/UNKLE fame, but the Timbaland-produced Cut Copy record remains an unrequited fantasy of mine.
...
English Beat were just in town, playing in support of The B-52s at Woodland Park Zoo. Pretty remarkable double bill. I would argue B-52s are more overtly made for a zoo than English Beat. From the band's I Just Can't Stop It LP.

From the legendary Max Romeo's brand-new (!) LP Horror Zone. Max Romeo's debut 1968 track "Wet Dream" was a big hit for the singer in Jamaica, and became a Top 10 hit in the UK despite being banned by British radio for the track's overtly sexual content.

The local band will be playing the Doe Bay Festival this weekend on Orcas Island. The band's new album, Night Music, came out back towards the start of July.

Probably the best Radiohead album? Between this and Kid A for me. This one has the jams though. Used to fight with my awful suitemate about it. His favorite was Hail to the Thief- the clam dip of Radiohead albums.

I still have fantasies about James Murphy telling me I'm cool. Then he picks me up, puts me over his shoulder, and we skateboard off together into the depths of Williamsburg.

New Sleigh Bells album is likely on the horizon. They dropped "Champions of Unrestricted Beauty" back in December, and now there's "Hyper Dark." It's like the band is moving through an 80s radio dial with the progression of their sound.

Really powerful new track from Miguel in reaction to the Black Lives Matter movement. The singer has said he wrote the track between 4-7AM in his London hotel room. He will continue to update the demo throughout the summer.
...
Indirectly prescient song from Prince, the title track of his masterful Sign "☮" the Times release. Prince performed every instrument on the track, except for some backup vocals by then-girlfriend Susannah Melvoin, who was also a guitarist in The Revolution at the time.
...
Jamie Lidell's latest, Building a Beginning, will be out this October. Was recorded with an impressive lineup of musicians, including Daru Jones (Jack White), Pino Palladino (D’Angelo, the Who), and Pat Sansone (Wilco).
...
The only type of love, if you ask me. Bit of a new sound for Cass McCombs. The musician will release his latest LP, Mangy Love, towards the end of August. He's on Anti Records, if you're into that.
...
Endlessly life-affirming music courtesy of Belle & Sebastian. From the If You're Feeling Sinister LP, which Stuart Murdoch would have you believe is his strongest set of tunes. This was from the Stuart David days of the band.
...
The Ocean Blue were signed to Sire Records while still attending high school-- they got a three album deal. Soon after their first LP came out, the band played this track, their debut single, on Club MTV (hosted by Downtown Julie Brown): www.youtube.com.
...
Undertones track from the undervalued Hypnotised release. It was the highest charting Undertones LP, peaking at No. 6 on the UK Charts. This track was the band's final single on Sire-- soon after, they signed with EMI.

Further proof that Kristin Hersh is the only thing that matters. She released a book about Vic Chesnutt at the tail end of last year, titled Don't Suck Don't Die. Also she has one of the best Twitters out there: twitter.com/kristinhersh

Song's title references Desmond Dekker's track "007 (Shanty Town)." Track praises the rude boys in 1960s Jamaica. A track written by Joe Strummer & Mick Jones, who sing it as a duet.

Music for your Eyes Wide Shut-style orgy of the summer. I feel like there's a direct relationship between the amount of societal delirium & the amount of music GOAT have released. The Swedish collective's third LP will be out in October.

A song forever changed by watching an obnoxious girl from my comp lit class rap it without anyone asking. It made everyone really uncomfortable. By everyone, I mean me. "It's Tricky" is from the Raising Hell LP.
...
Playing the Showbox on September 29th. The modern equivalent of "Take This Job and Shove It." Which was by Johnny Paycheck if you'd forgotten. It was the title track of Mr. Paycheck's seventeenth studio album.
...
I feel like everyone in Seattle has their own Mark Lanegan impression. Mine is just a vicious scowl and a mean croon. From Screaming Trees' debut album, Sweet Oblivion, which came out in 1992.
...
Camper Van Beethoven released their first three LPs in an 18-month span. That's an Ike & Tina Turner level of productivity. This one's from the first LP, Telephone Free Landslide Victory.

Released as a single three different times by Link Wray, twice as an A-Side (in 1961 and 1967) and once as a B-Side (in 1963, A-Side being The Black Widow). Either the track was really popular, or he ran out of steam pretty fast there.

Ranked No. 96 on Pitchfork's Top Albums of the Decade List. Like it's great they made it and all, but No. 96? Not the best thing to put on a press sheet. It'd make at least No. 86 on my list. You're welcome, Britt.

The most accurate Wilco album title to date. Soon to be followed by the follow-up to Jeff Tweedy's Tweedy album, titled Schmeedy. I wonder if Wilco took any flak from the Lucas camp for the Star Wars album title.

I feel like every music critic takes the opportunity of reviewing a new Wild Beasts album as a chance to workshop some bad animal puns. This track comes from the band's latest, Boy King, out on August 5th.

Inarguably on the short-list for the least sexual band of all time. Heard a talk about Devo at EMP Pop Conference about how the band used anti-sexuality to encourage their weirdo fan base, which I thought was pretty interesting.

Such a great Zola Jesus vocal part on this. Let's hope she's getting some serious residuals for this one. Maybe he threw her some of that "Midnight City" cash. This is off the 2011 M83 LP Hurry Up, We're Dreaming.

Serious Lost in Translation flashbacks. Scarlett Johansson walking through a courtyard... also an endlessly beautiful song, associated images aside. Death in Vegas's Scorpio Rising LP also had a great track with Hope Sandoval on it.

An emotional reset courtesy of Robert Smith. Disintegration was seen as a return to the gothic stylings of earlier Cure LPs following the comparatively upbeat Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me. It remains The Cure's highest selling LP.
...
Camp Cope's debut album received some acclaim from P4K, who called it effusive, empathetic, and emphatic. Also compared it to Magnetic Fields. Here's the full review: pitchfork.com.

A band described as "tuneful, but skewed" by AllMusic. If Butterglory ever wonders about their legacy, look no further than that pull quote. This track's from the debut Butterglory LP, titled Crumble.
