"Your Silent Face" had the working title of "KW1" (for that Kraftwerk One) before being released on 1983's 'Power, Corruption & Lies'.
Röyksopp describe themselves as a two-headed Norwegian monster, dealing within the realm of contemporary electronic music. Svein Berge and Torbjørn Brundtland formed Royksopp in 1998. They released their second studio album, 'The Understanding' in 2005 and this track in particular features vocals from Swedish singer Karin Dreijer "Fever Ray" Andersson of The Knife.
School of Seven Bells formed in NYC in 2007. The only member currently is Alejandra Deheza. Her sister Claudia Deheza left in 2010 and Benjamin Curtis passed away in 2013 due to cancer. PJ Harvey released 'Stories From the City, Stories From the Sea', her fifth full-length with a few songs being inspired by her time living in NYC.
“How Can You Be Sure?” was first included on the 1990 demo the band put out before they were officially called Radiohead.
When this track was first heard on radio, in 1993, Thom noted that the title was only tentatively “How Can You Be Sure?” and that he hoped to change it. This never happened, though on the first Japanese issue of The Bends, which includes two bonus tracks, the song was called “When I’m Like This.”
The background singer heard is Dianne Swann, of the band The Julie Dolphine. Originally, it was thought that it was Ed’s voice doing the background vocals, re-sampled, and that “Dianne Swan” was actually a joke, meaning “Dying Swan.”
Previously known as Say Hi To Your Mom, Say Hi is Seattle based Eric Elbogen. Elbogen records all of his albums at his home and plays all the instruments too! He released 'Oohs & Aahs' in 2009.
Songstress Angel Olsen just dropped her latest, 'My Woman' earlier this September and performed on the Morning Show too! She will be in Seattle for Little Big Show #17 at the Neptune Theatre on February 18th: www.stgpresents.org

1987's "The One I Love" is often misinterpreted as a dedication to loved ones but according to the January 1988 issue of Musician magazine, frontman Michael Stipe said that the song was "incredibly violent" and added, "It's very clear that it's about using people over and over again" via the contradicting verse, "A simple prop to occupy my time."
Vampire Weekend's Rostam and The Walkmen's Hamilton Leithauser team up for their new collaborative full-length, 'I Had a Dream That You Were Mine' which just dropped this past Friday. Rostam discussed their process in Pitchfork earlier this year..."We worked really hard on lyrics and every song tells a story. In some ways, the more that I write songs, the more I feel that telling a story is the most important thing; just being able to close your eyes when you hear some lyrics and go somewhere. It's worth taking the time to do that, because people respond to it."

Happy 65th Birthday Daniel Lanois! Lanois, is a guitarist, singer, and songwriter who produced albums for a wide variety of artists, including Bob Dylan('Oh Mercy' and 'Time Out of Mind'), Neil Young, Peter Gabriel ('So'), Emmylou Harris, Willie Nelson, and Brandon Flowers. Lanois also collaborated with Brian Eno: most famously on producing several albums for U2 ('The Joshua Tree' and 'Achtung Baby')
The lead single from Brosseau’s latest album, “You Can’t Stop,” is built around the tension between the singer’s elastic tenor and intricate guitar work. The track conveys both a sense of hope and melancholy or longing (Brosseau has voiced in interviews his appreciation for the tragic love story), the guitar swelling as Brosseau sings “we’re living in our dream//our own little dream,” his voice tremulous and emotive. Were you in tears at the Tears For Fears concert this weekend? Understandable. Originally, the lyrics of the song were "everybody wants to go to war", which co-member Roland Orzabal changed because he thought it was lacking. He talked more of its process "It was written and recorded in two weeks and was the final track to be added to the Songs from the Big Chair album. The shuffle beat was alien to our normal way of doing things. It was jolly rather than square and rigid in the manner of 'Shout', but it continued the process of becoming more extrovert."
Los Angeles based Midnight Faces self-released 'Heavenly Bodies' on August 26th. Frontman Doty described the group to CoS, “We are admittedly terrible at talking about our music in any serious way,” he says. “It’s a self-deprecating disease and a result of living in Los Angeles where everyone can’t wait to tell you how they hung the stars. We’re proud of the work we put into this record and are grateful for the skilled humans who added their touch to Heavenly Bodies. It’s a sincere attempt at our own thing. And for the record — we hung the stars.”

The late David Bowie produced Iggy Pop's second album, 'Lust for Life' slept little during the recording according to Iggy, "David and I had determined that we would record that album very quickly, which we wrote, recorded, and mixed in eight days, and because we had done it so quickly, we had a lot of money left over from the advance, which we split."
The Dismemberment Plan formed in 1993 in Washington D.C. grabbing their name from a phrase uttered by insurance salesman Ned Ryerson in the popular comedy Groundhog Day. The track "Back and Forth" is loosely based on Bob Dylan's "It's Alright, Ma (I'm Only Bleeding).

My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult is an industrial group founded in Chicago by Groovie Mann (born Frankie Nardiello) and Buzz McCoy (born Marston Daley). They were constant targets of the Parents Music Resource Center due to their humorous references to Satan, Jesus and sex in their lyrics.

Garbage plays the Paramount tonight in Seattle! In an interview, Shirley Manson said that while working on the lyrics, "Stupid Girl" became an "anthem for a girl who won't settle for less than what she wants". Later she added, "["Stupid Girl" is] really about squandering potential, [it's] our version of Madonna's 'Express Yourself', but a little more subversive".
The Clash's "Train in Vain" was not originally listed on the album's track listing, appearing as a hidden track at the end of the album. This was because the track was added to the record at the last minute, when the sleeve was already in production
Cymbals Eat Guitars just released their new full-length, 'Pretty Years'. The band's name comes from a Lou Reed quote describing the sound of The Velvet Underground. Deborah, who is sung about in Disco 2000 is an actual person based on a real life childhood friend of frontman Jarvis Cocker's, Deborah Bone, who moved away from Sheffield to Letchworth when she was 10. As the lyrics suggest, she did marry and have children.

Future Islands formed in 2006 in Greenville, North Carolina and has since relocated to Baltimore, Maryland. The band is composed of Gerrit Welmers (keyboards and programming), William Cashion (bass, acoustic and electric guitars), and Samuel T. Herring (lyrics and vocals). 'Singles' is their fourth full-length released in 2014 via 4AD.

Beat Happening (Calvin Johnson, Heather Lewis and Bret Lunsford) met while attending The Evergreen State College and began recording in 1983. The band took its name from a student art film, Beatnik Happening, made by Bret's girlfriend.
According to the band, the track "started as a '60s pop riff Henry was jamming on. When Henry briefly left rehearsal to get a nutritious snack, Grant and Gianni added a little Naked Giants sizzle to it by cranking the chorus up to level 11 and putting in a drum solo. Henry had no complaints. 'Surchin 4 U' is a song about surchin 4 me."
It's apparently, "International Talk Like A Pirate Day" Arrrrrgh. Adam and the Ants 'Kings of the Wild Frontier' cover art features some lovely pirate attire.
