Hooverphonic is a Belgian band that formed in 1995. When recording 'A New Stereophonic Sound Spectacular', vocalist Esther Lybeert backed out of the band on the day they were supposed to sign with Sony Music. The band then went through several vocalists until finally landing on Geike Arnaert, who was made their permanent singer in 1998.
"Protection" is a collaboration between Massive Attack and Everything But the Girl singer, Tracey Thorn. The song contains samples taken from "The Payback" by James Brown.

Sadie, who fronts the dynamite grunge-pop band Speedy Ortiz, forewent her usual modes of collaboration on "Slugger," writing and producing the record herself--"to exorcise my control-freaky demons," she says. Her bedroom recordings are largely about bedroom-based themes. She chews on what it means to give and receive consent, sexual and romantic autonomy, and finding new modes of enjoying love. She will be at The Vera Project on November 29th.

Happy Birthday Bob Mould, born yesterday on this day in 1960! After Husker Du and a couple of solo ventures, Mould recorded a demo tape of 30 songs and formed Sugar with David Barbe and Malcolm Travis. The band was named in an Athens, GA Waffle House Restaurant when Mould spotted a sugar packet on the table where he and the other two band members were sitting. They released their debut, Copper Blue in 1992.

Moby just dropped his new record this past Friday! Moby elaborates on his process for this new record, "I approached this record like a four year old would approach making breakfast out of everything they like: ice-cream, the dog, their toy cars and toast. I put in everything I like: punk and post-punk and new wave and euphoric rave and yelling. I played this album to some friends in the music business and they said “Um, OK, it sounds pretty angry.” So I went away and made it even angrier."

In a 2006 interview with musicOMH, Lily Allen describes how she wrote "Smile": "The first song I ever wrote was 'Smile'. We just went through about seven or eight sample lyrics, found a beat, put it all in... Then when it comes to writing lyrics I write... like a rapper would, I suppose, with absolutely no melody involved whatsoever, I'm just getting my flow sorted. Then I write the whole text of the song and then ad lib the melody into the microphone. It's not terribly clever!"

Arlo began life in the mid-'90s, when L.A. guitarists/vocalists Nate Greely and Sean Spillane formed a band called Otto while in college. They added a bassist and drummer and became Arlo. 'Up High in the Night' is their second release from 2001 on Sub Pop.
Dan Deacon's seventh full-length, 'Gliss Riffer' title is combination of the common music term "Gliss", short for glissando, and riffer, "one who plays sick riffs"
