"When we first found out our Mom was diagnosed with stage four ovarian cancer, we had just gotten back from what would be our last concert together. Bruce Springsteen in portland with my totally obsessed Aunt. This set is dedicated in her memory. Tina, our Mom and best friend....In the midst of planning her and my Dad’s thirtieth anniversary party, right before she was diagnosed, my brother had played “Eyes on the prize” by M. Ward and she fell head over heels and wanted this to be the song they danced to at their party. They never got the chance, as she passed away on December 12th of 2013, after a vicious battle, four months away from what would have been their 31st wedding anniversary. Instead we played this at her memorial with almost 700 people in attendance. She was a funky lady that just loved to dance and have fun, absolute salt of the earth. Thank you, dear Mama for always loving what we loved with no judgement and making us laugh to the end. " -Katie Goodall
More from Katie "When I had first heard of KEXP from my big brother in high school, I just about lost my mind when I found out they played My Morning Jacket, my favorite band of all time. No matter what was going on, when I heard a new band or song that I had scribbled down on a tattered piece of paper towel or receipt paper from work, she would stop what she was doing and listen with me, and what I had to say about the song, how it made me feel. Sometimes the end result was a her nodding sweetly while she stitched her next intricate square of fabric to the quilt she was currently working on, or a full blown dance party in the kitchen. "
"One of my most precious memories was how my friends liked to come to my house because instead of eating frozen pizza and putting on a movie, Mom would make homemade cookies, put on some her favorite old records and we would dance ourselves into a tizzy to the top hits of 1976 and 77. She taught me to ALWAYS be the first one on the dance floor, and the LAST one to leave. A legacy I plan to carry on as long as my hips hold out....Thank you, KEXP for being a part of such special memories that will not soon be forgotten. We love you mama, we’ll meet you on the other side. " Thank you Katie.

However, Green didn't want to record the song and for two days he argued with Willie Mitchell before finally agreeing to cut it. Thanks again Corey for the request and powering KEXP!
