Hips and Makers is the debut solo album of Kristin Hersh (also the primary singer/songwriter of Throwing Muses) released in 1994. In an interview with Mojo, she describes "Hips and Makers": "It's personal, literally so," Hersh said, "Full of skin and coffee, shoes and sweat and babies and sex and food and stores – just stupid stuff that's really a big deal."

Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr wrote "How Soon Is Now?" in June 1984. His demo was originally called "Swamp" to contrast the frequent chord changes he had employed in most Smiths' songs, Marr wanted to explore building a song around a single chord (in this case, F♯) as much as possible.

Born and raised in Guelph Ontario, Tim Kingsbury began playing and performing music as a child and eventually moved to Montreal in 2002 to join Arcade Fire. The multi-instrumental collaborator plans to debut his first solo record on February 17th.

The name of Florence and the Machine is comes from Florence Welch's teenage collaboration with keyboardist Isabella "Machine" Summers. They released their debut, "Lungs" in 2009.
Jenn Grant is releasing her sixth album, "Paradise" on March 3rd and she describes her journey with "Paradise": " I don’t feel like I really heard my own voice until recently. The delivery of songs has become so important to me. And for some of these new songs, I decided to approach singing more like a whisper, to try and get a feel for it’s softness. I wanted to feel the power in that."

David Byrne recalled in the liner notes, the inspiration for this song: "I used to know a blissed-out hippie-chick in Baltimore. She once told me that she used to do acid (the drug, not music) and lay down on the field by the Yoo-hoo chocolate soda factory. Flying out of her body, etc etc. It seemed like such a tacky kind of transcendence… but it was real! A new kind of religion being born out of heaps of rusted cars and fast food joints. And this girl was flying above it all, but in it too."

Savoy Motel’s beginnings lie with writer/producer Jeffrey Novak, who aimed at forming a new project with musician/artist, Jessica McFarland, both of whom were members of local pop trio Cheap Time. The lineup was filled out with dueling guitarists, Mimi Galbierz and Dillon Watson, and driven their Maestro brand drum machine, Savoy Motel has released their debut album this past October.
Recording "Holy Fire" had some interesting moments. According to lead singer, Yannis Philippakis:"At one point we even made these poor studio interns collect bones. We were inspired by these Haitian rhythms. We collected some ourselves, from butchers in Willesden High Road.Mainly cows. We had to order these big pots because one of the shoulder blades was too big! We boiled the flesh away so we could use them as percussion! "
