Kurt Cobain passed away 23 years ago. He was 27 years old.
"Jesus Wants Me for a Sunbeam" is a song originally recorded by Scottish alternative band The Vaselines for their EP 'Dying for It'. It is a parody on the Christian children's hymn, "I'll Be a Sunbeam," which has the opening line "Jesus wants me for a sunbeam." Here's the video of Nirvana's performance - www.youtube.com
In his suicide note, Kurt quoted Neil Young's lyric "it's better to burn out than to fade away" www.kurtcobainssuicidenote.com
Following the tour for 'Facelift', Alice in Chains entered the studio to record demos for its next album, but ended up recording five acoustic songs instead. While in the studio, drummer Sean Kinney had a dream about "making an EP called Sap" and the band decided "not to mess with fate", Heart's Ann Wilson sings background vocals on this track.
R.E.M. wrote this about Kurt Cobain after he died in 1994. Cobain was a fan of R.E.M., and when he died, Courtney Love gave them one of Kurt's guitars, which they used on this. It was a left-handed Fender (and one of the few guitars Cobain didn't smash), so Mike Mills had to restring it to play it right-handed.

"Drown" was originally released on the 'Singles' soundtrack and was to be released as a commercial single, but, as Billy Corgan explained, "We wanted it to be a single, we were pushing for it. I was even willing to make it a video. Radio stations were playing it. And when it came time for the third single, they said, 'Screaming Trees.' And I was like, 'Screaming Trees??' But what label is Alice in Chains on and what label are the Screaming Trees on? Epic, which is the label that put out the 'Singles' soundtrack. And that's what killed the song."
The Cure released "A Forest" on this date in 1980 as a single from the band's second album 'Seventeen Seconds'. Due to budgetary restraints 'Seventeen Seconds' was recorded and mixed in seven days on a budget of between £2000 and £3000, which resulted in the band working 16 or 17 hours a day to complete the album. guess they worked great under pressure!

This song was inspired by an interview bassist/singer Kim Gordon conducted with LL Cool J for Spin in which the two artists clashed. Although he is never mentioned by name, the song's lyrics contain several references to LL Cool J. Gordon's lyrics make reference to several of the rapper's works, including the single "I Can't Live Without My Radio" and the album 'Walking With a Panther'. She also repeats the line "I don't think so", which appears in LL Cool J's "Going Back to Cali". Chuck D also contributed vocals to the song.

The song is about a book that Kurt Cobain read, Perfume. The book and the song are about a boy who is born without body odor but has a strong sense of smell. Soon he becomes a murderer who kills female victims. It's a feel good story!

Rolling Stone's take on Killa Hill -"Another ice-water-veins choice: Fugazi's anti-rape anthem "Suggestion" gets diced into MacKaye's live-wire guitar flicker and Canty's echoey snare bang as backup for Inspectah Deck's "R.E.C. Room." This is the way they crash the party."
