Ulrich Schnauss is a German-born producer heavily influenced by My Bloody Valentine, Tangerine Dream, and Chapterhouse. 'A Strangley Isolated Place' is his second release, and also happens to hit #31 on Pitchfork's 50 Best Shoegaze Albums of All Time list: pitchfork.com
Though 'Beat' featured a drummer on four out of ten tracks, Lawrence Chandler of the NY-based duo said in an interview with Alternative Press: "Technologically [Beat] is the beginning of us learning our way around a proper sampler and software which allows us to work with samples on the computer. We can sample ourselves, manipulate sounds, create our own beats and basically work with fewer restrictions."
Considered to be the crown jewel of the shoegaze genre, which famously took two years to complete while almost bankrupting Creation Records. What exactly was frontman Kevin Shields doing during these two years on 'Loveless'? - "You might have seen pictures where Bilinda's playing a Fender Jaguar with an orange scratchplate. And no Jaguar's ever had an orange scratchplate, so people just assume we put it on. But it isn't... it's a tortoiseshell scratchplate. But for three or four nights in the studio I locked everyone out, and they thought I was working, but I wasn't. I was just really meticulously scratching the top layer off this scratchplate with a razorblade. That took three days. They were my least productive three days. Well actually, they were productive because I had something to show for it, but..."
'Gala' is considered the U.S. debut of the London shoegaze band, which is a compilation of the band's earlier releases. Their first show in Seattle in 20 years happened in 2016, but they borke up again tha same November. Read a review of the show here! blog.kexp.org

In a 2013 interview with Quietus, guitarist Julian Swales had this to say about their second album, 'Strange Free World' - "I had such a great time with (producer) Hugh Jones in the studio. To have somebody there who’s more into it than you are is fantastic. I don’t know if he was into it more than me – he probably wasn’t! – but he certainly knew what he was doing more, and how to get me to achieve more and make what I was doing sound better. Formed in 2011 by Brodie J Brümmer and Gemma O'Connor, this Melbourne band counts Slowdive and Ride as influences on their music. The band says about the shoegaze tag, "That is essentially what we are, and many other things as well. I will never shy away from it because as a song writer that’s what I identify with. Or at least that’s what happens I think."

Only two of the nine tracks on Swervedriver's debut album 'Raise' do not actually reference cars or driving
During the last eleven days of recording their debut album, 'Isn't Anything' Kevin Shields recalls in an interview with Quietus about an incident at the studio: "It was a basement studio, really awful, but luckily, the guy working there didn't care. He just said, "Whatever you want to do, do it, I'll push the button." He was just sat there reading Lord Of The Rings. He didn't even mind when we broke his foot....the studio was so bad the speakers were up on the wall on a little shelf, so you had to stand up to hear them, and when I was doing the bass to 'Feed Me With Your Kiss', we turned it up too loud and it blew the speakers off the shelf. And he reached out to catch one in his hand, and by pure instinct he put his foot out for the other one and it landed on his ankle. So he couldn't walk the rest of the time we were there, he just sat there with his broken foot reading his book"
