The song that broke Catherine Wheel to the American public. "Black Metallic" was the band's major-label debut single and MTV added it to heavy rotation. A seven minute epic.

According to his Facebook bio - "While finding his way through middle school and high school in the late 90s and early 00s with a love of dance pop and house music, Bradley Hale (of Now, Now) kept his obsessions to himself. Sombear is a way of reliving that youthful spirit without the confinement of hallways soaked in testosterone. "

Requested by Chris who just saw them for the first time last night in Atlanta. He said "It was everything I thought it would be, incredible music and lights! Much louder than I expected. I took two of my friends, their son and my daughter. It was the kids' first concert - by taking them to this concert, I might have set the bar pretty high for their expectations of future concerts." Glad you're starting them off right!

Released on this date in 1974, 'Diamond Dogs' was mix of the novel "Nineteen Eighty-Four" by George Orwell and Bowie's own vision of a post-apocalyptic world. Bowie had wanted to make a theatrical production of Orwell's book and began writing material after completing sessions for his 1973 album 'Pin Ups', but the author's estate denied the rights. The songs wound up on the second half of 'Diamond Dogs' instead where, as the titles indicated, the 1984 theme was prominent.

When this album was recorded and essentially done, producer Chris Thomas told the band on their next to last night in the studio that he was concerned that there was no "hit" on the album. The band left the studio that night knowing they had one day left and had to deliver "a hit". Talk about pressure. The band's performance on this track is amazing. "What You Need" was the band's first Top Ten hit.

'The Beatles', also known as the 'White Album', is the band's ninth studio album. Its plain white sleeve has no graphics or text other than the band's name embossed and was intended as a direct contrast to the vivid cover artwork of the band's earlier 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band'. Although no singles were issued from 'The Beatles', the songs "Hey Jude" and "Revolution" originated from the same recording sessions and were issued on a single in August 1968.

This song was one of the last to be conceived for 'The Colour of Spring', following concern from the band's management at the lack of an obvious single for the album. Initially unwilling, co-writers Mark Hollis and Tim Friese-Greene, accepted the task as a challenge. Friese-Greene: "I had a drum pattern loosely inspired by Kate Bush's Running Up That Hill and Mark was playing Green Onions organ over the top." Turned out alright!
