The title of the track came from an experience the Johns had when they found a substantial number of Ng's listed in a phone book. Linnell: "I think I was collecting possible song ideas and, for some reason, I ended up looking in the phone book, and there were about four pages of this name that contains no vowels, Ng. I was fascinated because it's a name I didn't know about before, and it was filling up a large chunk of the Manhattan white pages. I called up some of the numbers kind of experimentally to find out how it was pronounced, and I got the phone machine of a Dr. Ng and I was kind of relieved. The message said, 'Dr. Ng is not in,' and I had my material." (Pitchfork Magazine, 1996) Ng is a common Cantonese family name, and it is correctly pronounced like the last sound in "dong."

This song resurrected itself last year when it appeared on the soundtrack of ‘The A Word’, the fabulous BBC drama about a family whose 5-year-old son is diagnosed with autism.
Formed in Dublin by former members of the band Last Chance, vocalist Dave Couse, guitarist Fergal Bunbury, bassist Martin Healy (who had all been schoolfriends at Templeogue College), and drummer Dermot Wylie came together as A House.

One of the more popular songs by The Clash, this one uses a very unusual technique: Spanish lyrics echoing the English words.
Singing the Spanish parts with Joe Strummer was Joe Ely, a Texas singer whose 1978 album Honky Tonk Masquerade got the attention of The Clash when they heard it in England.
To celebrate the record’s 20th anniversary, Radiohead is releasing a deluxe reissue of its classic OK Computer called OKNOTOK. This special edition includes a bonus disc featuring eight B-sides and three unreleased tracks. The Cure used an Oberheim OB-8 synthesizer and a DMX drum machine on this track. These were relatively new creations, and they didn't quite know how to use them. At the beginning of the song, there's a synth note over a drum beat that they didn't want there but couldn't get rid of, which is why the song starts in discordant fashion.
