'War Child Presents Heroes' is a 2009 charity album devoted to the War Child charity's aid efforts in war-stricken areas, such as Iraq, Uganda, Afghanistan and the Democratic Republic of Congo. With a theme of "placing faith in the next generation," the concept of the album is to have music legends select a track from their catalog and nominate an artist from the next generation to create a modern reworking of that song. As the story goes, the band was named in an Athens, GA Waffle House Restaurant when Bob Mould spotted a sugar packet on the table where he and the other two band members were sitting. Their first concert was on February 20, 1992, at the 40 Watt Club in Athens, Georgia, after a few weeks warming up in R.E.M.'s downtown practice space.
The members of The Replacements all grew up in Minnesota and as kids they played "Duck, Duck, Gray Duck!"...duck, duck, goose to those of us not from up north.
