They announced they're playing 7 nights at Brooklyn Steel, June 16/17/19/20/21/23/24. Tickets go on sale the 15th . From the band's facebook: "i had a lot of back and forth about these shows with our very wonderful, concerned, thoughtful and on it managers and agents, and the professional consensus was that playing them was, frankly, a bad idea. to explain: we just did this in april, so they might seem “less special” now. for reasons i can’t seem to quantify, the earlier gigs were considered special, so they were in higher demand and sold out very quickly. but the undermining of some of the specialness is precisely what we’d love to accomplish with these gigs. they’re just some gigs. they’re in our home town, so we can totally walk there. they’re no more special than any other gigs. nothing unusual will be happening, other than what always happens at our gigs, which is us playing a bunch of songs as well as we can. we’re going to be playing a LOT in the near future, so they’re certainly not worth getting on a plane for, in our opinion. it’s NOT a finite resource. it is certainly 100% not worth paying some crazy amount over face value for them. we’re playing in other places this year, a lot, and that’s likely close to wherever it is you live (unless you live far from things, which i’m sorry about—but it still wouldn’t be worth flying to these.)"

Wilhelm Reich was an Austrian psychiatrist who was trained in Vienna by Sigmund Freud. In the 1930s, Reich came up with the concept of "orgone," orgasmic energy contained in the atmosphere and in all living matter. The "Cloudbuster" was a device he came up with to manipulate the orgone energy in the atmosphere, which would force clouds to form and bring rain. Check out pictures of his cloudbuster (which still exists) and all about him www.slate.com

"Pop icon Björk started out as a child star in her home country of Iceland when she released an album of covers in 1976. She was only 11 years-old. The album was called Björk, and even though it brought her fame, Björk was ashamed of the record. “I felt funny about having an album out that said ‘Björk’ on it, and it wasn’t my work. I’d been collaborating and wrote just one song. But I promised to myself that I would never do that again unless it was my album.” And from that point on she committed herself to full-blown originality." Gabriel expressed an interest in covering this song while speaking to BBC 6 Music. "I actually do like that song a lot," he said. "I haven't quite worked out whether I should be [singing my own name] or substituting it with a name that might be appropriate to me - I think playing with yourself makes you go blind after a while."

'Lisa' is John's #1 (or sometimes #2) favorite song. Let’s face it, making a favorite 100 songs list is impossible. You risk the knowledge that you’ve had to leave out songs that you know are actually better than the ones you’ve put down. There are classic songs that should be on your list, songs that are found on all best of lists… but THIS list, this list is harder because its YOUR favorite and not anyone else’s. Here is John's circa 2011: blog.kexp.org

Gary Jules covered this for the 2001 movie Donnie Darko. The director Richard Kelly hoped to end the film with the U2 track "MLK," but he couldn't afford the rights. So composer Michael Andrews and childhood friend Gary Jules made a rough recording of this Tears for Fears song to see if Kelly thought it would be suitable. Kelly was so impressed that he used that same recording on the film.

NIN have announced a new EP, which will arrive this year “before the first shows” of their planned tour dates. The news was relayed to fans via an email from Trent Reznor: “DID YOU KNOW NOT THE ACTUAL EVENTS WAS THE FIRST PART OF A TRILOGY OF RELATED EPS THAT WILL BE RELEASED ABOUT 6-8 MONTHS APART? NOW YOU DO,” a part of the message reads, referring to the band’s 2016 release Not the Actual Events EP. If that schedule holds, we should see the second installment of the three-EP trilogy before July 23. pitchfork.com

This is the most covered song amongst all of Mike Scott's compositions. He told us: "There are more than 50 recorded cover versions of it. It's been covered in French, Norwegian and Spanish. There are also jam band, country rock, torch song and hip-hop versions. My favorites are the ones where people make the song their own. My very favorite is a Japanese punk version that came out in the late '90s by a band called Pealout. It's really great, really crunching electric guitar and punky lead singer. I love it. There's also a great version by a Canadian band called Great Aunt Ida, which came out I think in 2005, a beautiful slow version, kind of like if Neil Young covered it."
