"Damien started his 50 State Tour in Ohio and then hit Indiana this week. I checked him out at an in-studio at Indy's Luna Music record shop and then his show in a old church in our Fountain Square neighborhood. While he did not play the John in the Morning theme song, he did deliver a very intimate and wonderful performance on both occasions. Damien talked a lot about how excited he's been getting out of the green rooms and meeting his fans who derive so much comfort and joy from his music. At the record store, he started talking to me while I was checking out Buffalo Tom's 25th Anniversary reissue of Let Me Come Over. "That's one of my all-time favorite albums!" he said. So, for Damien, can you play "Taillights Fade" by Buffalo Tom?" - Hugh, this is for you! And Damien. Of course.

Off the soundtrack curated by Lou Barlow: "I was really proud of what we did. We recorded that stuff lo-fi on cassette, but that kind of texture sounded great in a movie theater. Things have changed quite a bit as far as the way people use low-fidelity recordings in movies and stuff. Back then, when I saw the film, it still felt kind of unbelievable. I remember seeing the movie and thinking, “You know what? This works. It’s cool.” Read more of this interview here: www.stereogum.com

Another album that turns 24 years old today! Says Phair, "I was dating this guy and I was living in this apartment where I was writing the songs for Guyville. It belonged to some friends who had vacated and they’d left behind these cassette tapes, and one was Exile On Main St. I was listening to it and thinking about how to make a record, and I was fighting with [this guy], and he said, “Well, why don’t you do that one? That’s a double record” — but he was kind of sarcastic about it and so I was like, “Okay! I will!” - Check out more of this oral history of 'Exile in Guyville' here: www.spin.com
