"Immigrant Song" was written during Led Zeppelin's during their summer 1970 tour. The opening date of this tour took place in Reykjavík, Iceland, which inspired vocalist Robert Plant to write the song. They played the song for the first time six days (!) after playing Reykjavík.
The album, 'Dream Police' was released in 1979, but was actually recorded and ready to go in 1978...it got delayed 'cause their label decided to release the live album 'At Budokan' in Japan due to their rabid fan base there, but stateside demands for the import grew so great that Epic issued it domestically. Good thing they did, it was a hit!
