Olden Yolk is a Brooklyn based project founded by musician, visual artist, and writer Shane Butler and Caity Shaffer. Shane is a co-founder and member of thepsychedelic-folk band Quilt with which he has been writing, recording, and touring internationally for the past eight years. With Olden Yolk, Butler further explores elements of experimentalism, noise, and traditional folk.
The song "Takes One to Know One," written during an especially jarring year of disillusionment, explores the process of finding solace in passing visages—a stranger's smile on the subway or the beauty of haphazard graffiti on a brick-laden wall. Its instrumentation is highly inspired by the percussion style of Jaki Liebezeit (of the German group CAN), a favorite of ours.”
Olden Yolk is out February 23rd via Trouble in Mind Records.

Mick Jagger wrote the music in Rome in 1968. Marianne Faithful wrote the lyrics, but The Stones did not give her an official songwriting credit until they released it on their 1998 live album No Security. Ry Cooder played the bottleneck guitar on this track. He was filling in for the drug-addled Brian Jones, who died before this song was released, but after it was written. This was the only song on Sticky Fingers that Mick Taylor, who replaced Jones, didn't play on. Not long after writing the song, the lyrics came painfully true to Marianne Faithfull. She recalled to The Guardian: "The story is about a man in a car accident in hospital, who's very damaged and wants to die. It isn't exactly what happened to me, but my feelings about it are probably the same. I was hospitalised in Sydney after an attempted suicide after Brian Jones died. It was a terrible time."
You can now watch Kyle Craft’s official video for “The Rager” from Full Circle Nightmare, his forthcoming second album, February 2nd, via our Sub Pop friendly friends of friendship.
“The Rager” was directed by returning collaborators, the One Hundred/Swanson Studio team (who helmed the “Heartbreak Junky” lyric video).
Craft says of “The Rager” video, “My friend Alyssa portrays a tragic heroine who is delivering what will be her last performance. As she takes the stage, the audience is totally indifferent to her presence. In the song, she’s human; however, in the video, she represents something more. A beautiful idea, rock ‘n’ roll, our country, something dying… whatever it is you want that idea to be, that’s the character she plays here.” www.youtube.com
Thom Yorke attended the premiere of Star Wars: The Last Jedi in Los Angeles last night. In an incredible moment for popular culture, he was photographed sitting cross-legged on the red carpet next to BB-8....because why wouldn't you? For those who are unfamiliar with what...err...who BB-8 is, it's the new R2D2 robot pal from the latest Star Wars episodes. Bzzzrpf, zrrd bleep blop blorp.

Two years after the first iteration — which featured team-ups with Shakey Graves, Lucius, Preservation Jazz Hall Band, and more covering famed cuts from the likes of Elvis Costello, Guns N’ Roses, and Nine Inch Nails — the folk-rock duo (and real-life couple) are ready to share version two. For the song "Joey" featuring singer and new pal Nicole Atkins, they told Entertainment Weekly: "“We wanted to make a version of this song that sounded like a spooky, garage-y Diana Ross and the Supremes — with us playing the role of the Supremes. The lyrics are so mysterious, vivid, and wonderful that we thought it’d be cool to toy with the visualization of them by making it sound as much like how we saw them playing out in our minds as possible. We chose to stagger our voices coming in and out of the verses so it could broaden the story a little and introduce different characters at different times and also make you wonder, ‘WTF is going on here?’
TR/ST is the solo project of Toronto native Robert Alfons. In regard to this new song and his new album, he says: “this album, written at an isolated farmhouse in rural Canada, is about the journey of a man—essentially a narcissist—fighting with ideas of impurity and worthlessness.” But it is also, he continues, about “expressing our own sexual fantasies.”

Moby has released a new single and video for “Like a Motherless Child,” from his forthcoming album Everything Was Beautiful, And Nothing Hurt. Featuring LA-based soulstress Raquel Rodriguez, “Like a Motherless Child” is a re-work of the well-known spiritual with origins in the slavery of the American South. The track describes the void left when one feels separated from a parent, higher power or similar guiding force. Over the years this powerful song has been reinterpreted by the likes of Odetta, Lena Horne, Mahalia Jackson and Van Morrison.
The album will be released on March 2, 2018 via Mute. www.youtube.com
Happy birthday to Mos Def. According to IMDB, he's working on a new movie called "The Disconnected," in which he stars as a reclusive Law Enforcement Consultant, in a world where technology makes everyone more connected and more distant than ever before, must fight a madman who's using technology to turn people into extensions of his own consciousness. That. Sounds. AWESOME.
Singer Bill Janovitz told Sterogum “[‘All Be Gone’ has] is "...pretty self-evident about getting older...I wear my emotions on my sleeve. Kids grow at such an exponential rate, it really hits home to you. A lot of [the song] is about that, certainly. But it’s also not just this sad, melancholy song — it’s really about carpe diem, seizing it all as you can, and trying to hold on.”
Quiet And Peace due in 2018, is Buffalo Tom’s first album since 2011’s Skins.

For Sale: Live at Maxwell's 1986 is a 2017 live album by The Replacements. Recorded at Maxwell's in 1986. The band's only previous live album—1985's The (s-word) Hits the Fans—was a limited cassette tape release which features poor audio quality and several false starts and stops on songs. In 2007, bassist Tommy Stinson stated that "There are no good Replacements live recordings". Thank goodness he was wrong. The album was produced by Bob Mehr, who wrote the 2016 biography of the band Trouble Boys: The True Story of the Replacements.
Tyrannosaurus, aka T-Rex, is a genus of coelurosaurian theropod dinosaur. The species Tyrannosaurus rex (rex meaning "king" in Latin), is one of the most well-represented of the large theropods. Tyrannosaurus lived throughout what is now western North America, on what was then an island continent known as Laramidia. Tyrannosaurus had a much wider range than other tyrannosaurids. Fossils are found in a variety of rock formations dating to the Maastrichtian age of the upper Cretaceous Period, 68 to 66 million years ago.
