"Of all the tracks on its sophomore Express LP, "All in My Kind" is the one which most deliberately harks back to Love and Rockets' debut album, lushly layered vocals half-whispering the lyric over a dense, percussion-laden soundtrack. That lyric, meanwhile, is one of the group's most open to interpretation -- it seeks, among other things, to reassure a friend that he has no reason to feel paranoid, with the line "nobody has ever ripped you off, it's all in your mind" promptly seized upon by various outsiders as a direct reference to former Bauhaus bandmate Peter Murphy." bit.ly

London-by-way-of Berlin duo Lea Porcelain have a new self-titled EP out in April. Here’s what the band says about these new songs:
"This EP is a compilation of tracks that we personally love and felt that we had to put on an extra EP, when the time was right. These tracks show a different side of us, in another context, but fully preserve the soul of our music. We think it’s really important to focus on context and aesthetics. We did have a few tracks that were going in this direction on the album (A Year From Here, Endlessly, The Love) but the tracks on this EP needed their own attention and an external release."
"Every track on this EP feels for us like it needs to see the world and cannot be held back from us. It is our approach to always expand to other styles and simultaneously keep the same underlying emotion that makes our music sound like ‘Lea Porcelain’." www.leaporcelain.com

Speaking to NPR back in 2008, Dolly Parton gave some backstory on her most famous single: "Parton says that she got the story for her song from another redhead in her life at the time — a bank teller who was giving Parton's new husband a little more interest than he had coming.
"She got this terrible crush on my husband," Parton says. "And he just loved going to the bank because she paid him so much attention. It was kinda like a running joke between us — when I was saying, 'Hell, you're spending a lot of time at the bank. I don't believe we've got that kind of money.' So it's really an innocent song all around, but sounds like a dreadful one." n.pr

"Take Me With U" was initially written for Apollonia 6 and was included as the first track on an early configuration of the Apollonia 6 album, before being added to the final configuration of Purple Rain. Janelle Monae's new album and accompanying narrative film Dirty Computer is out April 27th.
Monae recently spoke with the Guardian about her chief musical mentor, Prince: “It’s difficult for me to even speak about this because Prince was helping me with the album, before he passed on to another frequency,” she says. His sudden death was “a stab in the stomach. The last time I saw him was New Year’s Day. I performed a private party in St Bart’s with him, and after we sat and just talked for five hours. He was one of the people I would talk to about things, him and Stevie Wonder.” Both were among her earliest champions. Before The ArchAndroid was released, she sent each of them a copy, on CD-R, with a handwritten track list.
Prince not only encouraged her then, he lobbied for her first BET awards appearance and he performed on Electric Lady; when he died, he and Monáe were “collecting sounds” for Dirty Computer." bit.ly

"I hear we were influential a lot, and take that as a compliment. But I don’t hear bands that sound like us. When we formed in ‘79, the punk explosion had happened and it was thrilling, but the vocabulary of punk was primitive. We were part of the expansion of that, using different tonalities and time signatures. We sort of combine the brains of progressive rock and the guts of punk."
