Event InfoThe song is about the relationship between psychologist and philosopher Wilhelm Reich and his son Peter. It describes the boy's memories of his life with Reich on their family farm, called Orgonon where the two spent time "cloudbusting", a rain-making process which involved pointing at the sky a machine designed and built by Reich, called a cloudbuster. (OBVIOUSLY we wouldn't need such a device here in Seattle..)

Counting up the Sub Pop Catalog! SP130 is The Afghan Whigs' 3rd album, released on January 31, 1992. After touring for two years in support of their 1990 album "Up in It", the band received $15,000 advance from Sub Pop to record a follow-up album. The album's production and release were hindered by Sub Pop's financial difficulties, which were eventually resolved by the massive commercial success of Nirvana's 1991 album Nevermind. THANKS, NIRVANA! www.kexp.org

According to former band intern Ezra Koenig (Of Vampire Weekend fame), ‘The Rat’ was originally called 'Girls At Night'.
“It’s a song of strength and empowerment, rooted in the idea of rising above,” frontwoman Alison Mosshart said about “List of Demands.” “It was one of those songs you’re almost scared to cover, because it carries so much respect. It wasn’t a straight up love song or a drug song. It was defined, serious, and perfect already. With certain songs, you feel like an intruder trying to sing them, but this one felt like my own.”
Talking heads cover! Kidjo on Byrne's "Fire cannot hurt a man/Not the government man" lyrics: "When we play with fire, in human life it's corruption," she says. "So it's about corruption in society and how we don't invest in social development. And don't get me wrong, everybody is corrupted. It's not only the African leaders, but corruption is eating up our system and it's the fire that is step-by-step burning down the house we built."

The New York Times had a great feature on David Byrne recently. Byrne descrbes his new album as neither ironic nor literal: “I’m certainly not describing any utopia.
Some of the verses, especially, are kind of dystopian, or not exactly cheerful. But they’re countered by the choruses, which seem to give a sense of hope.” Read more at www.nytimes.com
