Good morning, Seattle, it's time to wake up. We want to wish a happy 52nd birthday to Mad Season's Mike McCready today, and also remember Layne Staley, who we lost on this day in 2002.
Mother Love Bone frontman, Andy Wood, would pass away just months before the release of their debut album Apple. Following his death, members Jeff Ament and Stone Gossard would form Temple of the Dog with Soundgarden members, Matt Cameron and Chris Cornell.
After Andrew Wood's death in 1990, Soundgarden members, Chris Cornell and Matt Cameron, would team up with Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament to form this tribute band to Wood. Taking their name from some of Andy's lyrics, it would be their sole release as Temple of the Dog.

The Gits frontwoman, Mia Zapata, was murdered after leaving the Comet Tavern on July 7, 1993. The crime remained unsolved for ten years until technology had advanced enough to bring up her killer's DNA profile.
The album title (and cover art) for this local band's second album was done in tribute to Mia Zapata, brutally killed after leaving the Comet Tavern in 1993.
