Melatonin is a natural hormone made by your body's pineal gland. During the day the pineal is inactive. When the sun goes down and darkness occurs, the pineal is "turned on" and begins to actively produce melatonin, which is released into the blood. Usually, this occurs around 9 pm. As a result, melatonin levels in the blood rise sharply and you begin to feel less alert. Melatonin levels in the blood stay elevated for about 12 hours - all through the night - before the light of a new day when they fall back to low daytime levels by about 9 am. Shit, no wonder I'm still sleepy!

From listener Morgan Lee - "Our family just returned from two weeks in Indiana. We were there to spend time with our loved ones as my 31 year old brother spent his last days fighting testicular cancer. The night of his passing we each took turns playing his favorite music at the foot of his hospital bed until the early hours of the morning. I just want to thank KEXP for being such an important part of my life and the life of my family. It is very strange to be back doing life again after losing my brother. We all feel like zombies. But driving my beautiful girl to preschool and rocking out to 'Peaches' makes everything look a little brighter this morning." #RIPTannerLee

So there Owen!

In the late 1980s and early 1990s, Beck was a homeless musician in NYC and he moved back to his hometown of Los Angeles in early 1991, due to his financial struggles. Beck worked low-wage jobs to survive, but still found time to perform his songs at local coffeehouses and clubs. He'd make up songs with joke lyrics to keep people listening and "Loser" came out of this improvisation.
