The Prince Estate has released today the original version of the iconic song "Nothing Compares 2 U." This previously unreleased version was recorded in 1984, six years before Sinead O'Connor's 1990 hit interpretation. It was recorded at the Flying Cloud Drive Warehouse in Eden Prairie by Prince's long-time engineer, Susan Rogers and features backing vocals by Susannah Melvoin and Paul "St. Paul" Peterson.

Liz Phair will soon release an Exile in Guyville box set, featuring her early demo tapes (called Girly-Sound tapes, the name she recorded under in 1991). This is a new demo just released from that box set, which later turned into "Stratford-On-Guy" for her debut album. Phair will be playing a sold-out show at the Crocodile on June 2nd.

Happy 76th birthday to Alan Price, The Animals keyboardist who is credited as the arranger of their version of "House of the Rising Sun." According to their drummer, John Steel, Bob Dylan told him that when he heard this version on his car radio, he jumped out of the car and banged on the hood, inspiring him to go electric.
