The Chemical Brothers DJ Tim Rowlands says Public Enemy's first album changed his life. He described the Hip-Hop collective's song "Miuzi Weighs a Ton" as "the most amazing track I've ever heard." From there, Rowlands started collecting Hip-Hop records and started DJing with his childhood friend, Ed Simons.

Exitmusic has resurfaced with The Recognitions, the band's long-awaited follow-up and what is likely its final album. Yep, more Sub Pop 371! Kim Thayil (guitar) and Hiro Yamamoto (bass) moved to Olympia from Illinois in 1981 with Sub Pop founder Bruce Pavitt. They planned on attending Evergreen State College, but got swept up in the music scene.

The band is formed from Frightened Rabbit frontman Scott Hutchison, his brother and F’Rabbit drummer Grant, Editors and former guitarist Justin Lockey, and his brother and Minor Victories bandmate James.
After meeting in Berlin, they decided to form a side-project. The result was debut album ‘Dance Music’ – a harsh and fuzzy collection of spikey college rock and tales of ‘still not having figured shit out in life’.
Public Enemy's Chuck D contributes some vocals in the song. The collaboration came about as Public Enemy and Sonic Youth were both recording albums in the same small studio. Singer and guitarist Thurston Moore told City Limits: "It was real exciting for us. We're big fans. They were aware of us – I think they were kind of curious about us. Their scene is aware ours exists, but it all melts together. So, you know, we might as well be Blondie!... Chuck was around, Kim (Deal) asked him if he'd come in, do the song, say those lines –and he elaborated on it a bit, and grooved along."

Bob Dorough, the man responsible for some of the most beloved tunes on the cartoon series “Schoolhouse Rock!” died Monday at his home in Mt. Bethel, Pennsylvania. Dorough was 94.

Asked why the videos connected, Dorough said, “The melodies, words, arrangements, and players. That is to say, even though they were in a ‘rock’ or ‘pop’ bag, my jazz sensibilities and the fine musicians I used for the audio recordings made the songs seem unusual to the Saturday morning cartoon listeners.”
Just last week, there was a vivid example of just how popular the videos remain.
More than a thousand people — adults who wanted to relive part of their childhood and parents who wanted to share the fun with their kids — jammed into the lobby of the Kennedy Center to hear Dorough sing “Three’s a Magic Number” and “Figure Eight is Double 4.”
“I came because I had such fond, intense memories,” said Amy Augenblick, who brought her 9-year-old daughter, Elizabeth. “I could sing all of it without the words.”
