His response? “I’ve not thought about playing it at my own funeral but it wouldn’t be a bad choice, would it? I chose my epitaph the other day. I want my tombstone to say ‘I’d like to do that again, please.’" Read the full interview at www.esquire.com

The Guardian has a great interview with the Doves from years back. Band members and twin brothers Jez and Andy Williams "have been playing music together since they were six. Their mother taught them Irish songs, and they grew up listening to anything and everything: Abba, Jimi Hendrix, prog rock, Public Enemy, Status Quo. Their biggest influences were Manchester bands such as Joy Division, New Order, the Smiths, Happy Mondays". Read more at www.theguardian.com

As a teenager he was inspired by other Tromsø musicians, especially Geir Jenssen, the musical prodigy later to be known as ambient pioneer Biosphere. Torske started releasing minimalist techno in the beginning of the '90s, primarily under the name of Ismistik. He's collaborated quite a bit with Röyksopp. bjorntorske.bandcamp.com
Ed Simons and Tom Rowlands both moved to Manchester to study. They originally called themselves The Dust Brothers, and their first track, Song To The Siren, was released by DJ/producer Andy Weatherall on his Junior Boy’s Own label. Legal action caused a name change to The Chemical Brothers, and they released their first album, Exit Planet Dust, under that name in 1995. Their seventh album, Born In The Echoes, was released in 2015.

The band explain in an interview with The Guardian that "Noel Gallagher auditioned to be our singer and didn't get the gig, but we let him down gently by saying he could be our roadie instead. He broke his leg before a tour once, and we must be the only band in history that's had to carry their roadie in and out of gigs." Way to go, Noel Gallagher... www.theguardian.com

I came home with a guitar and told my dad, 'I'm a punk musician now', and my father said, 'You won't last a week'. Here I am 40 years later." 👉 Read Hook's description of that show at www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk

A new project that finds the Benin-born artist reclaiming rock for Africa, bringing the Talking Heads' landmark 1980 album full circle. The record is a track-by-track re-imagination of the original, considered to be one of the greatest albums of the ‘80s and deeply influenced by music from West Africa, notably Fela Kuti's afrobeat. With her version of 'Remain In Light’ (out June 8/Kravenworks Records), Angélique celebrates the genius of Talking Heads, Brian Eno and the touchstones that made the original so revered and injects it with her euphoric singing, explosive percussion, horn orchestrations, and select lyrics performed in languages from her home country.
Performed at the AMAZING, amazing David Byrne show last week.💡

By the early 90's, the British music press was banging on about groups such as Happy Mondays, The Stone Roses, Inspiral Carpets, Northside, 808 State, James, and many more..

Electronic = New Order's Bernie Summer + The Smiths' Johnny Marr. The two first met in 1984 when the Smiths guitarist contributed to a Quando Quango track that Sumner was producing. Later in 1988, Sumner was frustrated because his New Order bandmates were not receptive to his desire to add synth programming to their music. He decided to produce a solo album but found that he did not enjoy working alone, so he called Marr for help.
