Dear Tommy was said to be completed, but after Jewel suffered a near-death experience in 2015, Jewel's former manager, Alexis Rivera, revealed on Twitter that 15,000 CDs and 10,000 vinyl of the album were completely trashed. So here it is, "Black Walls" from a completely re-recorded Dear Tommy, due out sometime this fall via Italians Do It Better.

Beck stated to Zane Lowe that he almost did not give "Wow" to his record label, because of his fears that it was a bad song. However, his children talked him into it, and Capitol Records ultimately released it as a single. Chance the Rapper was originally intended to make a guest appearance on the track: Beck told NME, "Four or five months ago we tried to get Chance on 'Wow.' I'm not sure what happened with that."

As a press statement notes, Uniform Distortion was inspired by The Last Whole Earth Catalog, a ’70s-era magazine focused on the environment, sustainable living, and DIY culture. Specifically, the My Morning Jacket frontman was drawn to a photograph titled “Illuminated Man” by Duane Michals. For James, the image made him reflect on society’s near addiction to technology and the way in which we consume information (and misinformation).
The band were signed to 4AD in 1992, on the strength of a demo tape passed to 4AD boss Ivo Watts-Russell by American Music Club frontman Mark Eitzel.
"Never before or since had I received a demo that was 90 minutes long! In fact, it was quite some time before I actually listened to the whole thing all the way through. Every morning and evening, driving to and from work, I would start at the beginning, "24" (I know, I know, what more do you need to hear, right? What a song.), but only get about half way through that and whatever the second song on the tape was before arriving home/at 4AD. When I finally did listen to the full 90 minutes I called young Mark K. and left him a message. I learned later he was sitting in the bath listening to me talk. It was a perfect time for me to hear that brilliant band."

Wussy's Lisa Walker talking about the album's "dirtier, grungier" sound: "That's just a product of what we listen to … some of my favorite '90s bands came out with great new releases in the past two years," Walker said, citing recent favorites from revived '90s alt-rock shoegazer acts such as Ride and Slowdive.
"I was listening to their new stuff, and I was pretty excited about going back to listen to their old ones," she added in explaining the buzz of "What Heaven is Like" songs such as "Skip."

In making a cover album of Talking Heads' Remain in Light, people kept telling Angélique Kidjo that the absurd songs had no meaning. But it didn't seem that way to her. She connected the music with folk songs from her home country of Benin and interpreted them through the same cultural lens that the band did. n.pr
Drawing on the influence of Nigerian musician Fela Kuti for Remain In Light, Thalking Heads experimented with African polyrhythms, funk, and electronics, recording instrumental tracks as a series of looping grooves. The sessions incorporated a variety of side musicians, including guitarist Adrian Belew, singer Nona Hendryx, and trumpet player Jon Hassell.

"War" is a counterculture-era soul song written by Norman Whitfield and Barrett Strong for the Motown label in 1969. Whitfield first produced the song – an obvious anti-Vietnam War protest – with The Temptations as the original vocalists. After Motown began receiving repeated requests to release "War" as a single, Whitfield re-recorded the song with Edwin Starr as the vocalist, with the label deciding to withhold the Temptations' version from single release so as not to alienate their more conservative fans.

During the recording of Burning From The Inside, singer Peter Murphy was ill, leaving the rest of the band to undertake much of the writing and recording process without him. As evidence of how much input the rest of the band had on the album, bassist David J and guitarist Daniel Ash sang lead vocals on a number of songs. This, combined with the fact that the band started recording without Murphy, led to internal difficulties, and by the time the album was released, they had already broken up.

Amnesiac released on this date in 2001. According to Q magazine April 2008, this track is about a crisis point in Thom Yorke's life. The singer's troubles were partly caused by the baggage of past relationships and coincided with an incident when Yorke was strolling on a beach, looked back, and spotted an apparition in his house.

This was originally the B-side of Yazoo's 1982 UK #2 hit "Only You." In 1990 a re-mixed version by Francois Kevorkian took the song to #14 on the UK on its own right. It also topped the US Dance Club Play charts for four weeks in 1982.

Dave Wakeling, who sang and played guitar in General Public, talked about writing this song: "I used to like traveling with the trucks that carried the gear. I'd always been a big fan of that TV show Cannonball when I was a kid, and thought that the idea of American trucks was very romantic. So when we came on tour, I used to love to drive overnight with the truck drivers and talk rubbish on the CB in there. And so it was as if the trucks were driving in what's called 'the endless gray river.' And the notion was that you were driving around in there in America searching for the tenderness, whereas, of course, it's in your heart all the time. So it's like you're looking in the outside world for something that can only be discovered in yourself, because love is a verb, not a noun. That was the notion of it."
