According to an interview from April 2008, this track was never intended for the album. Thom Yorke dismissed it as "not bad... it's very bad." Eventually it was included on The Bends because of its presumed commercial appeal.

There’s something about the name Gloria that makes people want to sing it. Or spell it out. In a recent interview with Stereogum, Walker explained that she wrote “Gloria” as a tribute to the perpetually perplexed but resilient police chief played by Carrie Coon on Season 3 of Fargo, which Walker binge-watched in a haze after the 2016 U.S. presidential election. While the show’s all-encompassing bleakness enhanced the Indiana native’s sense of political alienation, Coon’s brilliantly empathetic performance—derived but distinct from Frances McDormand’s Oscar-winning turn in the original movie—served as a source of inspiration. “Gloria became this very hallowed character for me,” Walker explained. “The invisible woman who rises up. ... She’s the goddamn hero we need right now.”

Happy birthday to Sean Nelson! Back in 2005, in an effort to "embrace the indisputable fact of music in the 21st century", the band made this album available as a free download via BitTorrent and on their website. They pointed out that "it’s important that people understand the free download concept isn’t a frivolous act. It’s a key part of our promotional campaign, along with radio and press promotion, live shows, and videos. It’s a bet that the resources of the Internet can make possible a new way for musicians to find their audience – and forge a meaningful artistic career built on support from cooperative, not adversarial, relationships."

We started work on “Someday” during the ‘Three’ sessions - it was based on a beat Josh made from samples of the Al Green songs “I’m Still in Love with You” and “Livin’ for You”. But then Becky's death derailed everything in our lives and this song became too painful for us to work on. This spring, we were able to return to the song and finish it as part of our efforts to raise awareness about suicide prevention and to destigmatize mental illness. Like so many people, we've been through some very dark times, but we want everyone who is suffering to know that there is help and hope in the world.

Mark Ronson: "I was finishing up my album Version, and I thought, 'Oh man, it would be great to just cut a song with Amy when I'm here.' Because the theme of the album was mainly working with indie music, I was like, 'Is there a guitar band that you like?' She said, 'Well, I love this song "Valerie" by the Zutons. They always play it at my local.' To be honest, the first time I heard the song I was like, 'Uh. . .OK.' The song wasn't blowing me away, but she knew what a great song it was – like, inherently. Those chords spoke to her, and she knew how great it would be once she cut it."

To celebrate the fifteenth anniversary of the release of the critically acclaimed album, Hearts of Oak, Ted Leo and the Pharmacists are embarking on a limited run of shows, performing two nights in each town.
On the first night, they’ll warm up with some recent songs, then perform the Hearts of Oak album in its entirety.

For two of the four tracks on the Consolation E.P. (out on Domino on June 15th) they have collaborated with Kelley Deal of The Breeders and R.Ring. Mike Montgommery of R. Ring recorded and produced the EP in his studio in Dayton, Kentucky. Deal shares fond memories of the work she did with Protomartyr and Montgommery on the release:
“For Mike and I, working on this EP with Protomartyr was a re-kindling of the tender spark that was struck upon our first encounter with them years ago in Texas. They were graciously tolerant and receptive to my production ideas on the songs and the project quickly grew beyond our private orb. We have cello from Lori Goldston, viola from Jocelyn Hach and even bass clarinet from Evan Ziporyn, and I do some singing with Joe. There's a lot of trust involved when an artist places their songs in your hands, and we were very mindful of that while intentionally trying to take the songs in new directions. Candyland in Dayton, KY is home-base for R.Ring recording, and it's close enough that the Proto-men could make it down to lay the tracks down. This is the second project like this we've done with them, so we're ready to flip the tables and have them produce and record some of our songs!”
The experimental rockers have helmed the music for 1/1, a drama that follows a 20-year-old woman and her struggles with sex, drugs, love and loss out in rural Pennsylvania. The film marks the directorial debut for Jeremy Phillips, and stars Lindsey Shaw (Pretty Little Liars) and Judd Nelson (The Breakfast Club, St Elmo’s Fire).
"Rez" is a non-album track by Underworld, originally released in 1993 in the UK. The first promo release of the single was pressed onto pink vinyl, and is highly collectible as it has another non-album track, "Why, Why, Why".

Alison Mosshart first met Jamie Hince when she was just 17 and was staying in the flat below him. "I used to just hear him play electric guitar up there, and I was like, this is the fucking coolest-sounding electric guitar ever," she revealed in an interview with the Lena Dunham newsletter Lenny Letter. "When I met him I told him, 'I want to be in a band with you,' and he thought that I was insane but I really persisted, and eventually we started writing and he encouraged me."
Mosshart added that Hince the gave her a four-track cassette recorder to practise on. "Then I would run back to London with the tapes, and that's how the Kills started," she said.
This was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance in 1996, but lost to Alanis Morissette's "You Oughta Know."

The band has announced new recordings with the four original members for the first time since 1984. Ttitled Ascension, the 12-track album is comprised of unique renditions of some of their greatest hits, all featuring the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra. While no release date has been announced, the teaser trailer says Summer 2018, so hopefully Seagulls fans won’t have much longer to wait.

Afrika Bambaataa: I was talking to Bill Laswell saying I need somebody who's really crazy, man, and he thought of John Lydon. I knew he was perfect because I'd seen this movie that he'd made [Corrupt, a.k.a. Copkiller and The Order of Death], I knew about all the Sex Pistols and Public Image stuff, so we got together and we did a smashing crazy version, and a version where he cussed the Queen something terrible, which was never released.
John Lydon: We went in, put a drum beat down on the machine and did the whole thing in about four-and-a-half hours. It was very, very quick.
