In the 90's in London's rave scene, Turnmills was the first club to get a 24-hour operation license. The band explains: "Turnmills was where we first experienced electronic music in a club setting... It’s a totally different and transformative listening experience and that communal spirit, atmosphere and feeling has inspired the way we've made music. Clubs are such important hubs for music discovery, especially of songs that you might have overlooked in a different setting. Satchel was originally formed under the name Bliss by vocalist Shawn Smith and drummer Regan Hagar, after their previous band Brad (which also featured guitarist Stone Gossard) went on hiatus. After a copyright name challenge, they settled on the name Satchel.
After art school, PJ Harvey "was going to do a degree in sculpture, but instead of doing that, I’d signed a record deal and deferred my place. After making Dry, I thought, “I’ll make one more record.” Then I thought people will probably get bored of me. So I deferred my college course again to write Rid of Me."

The track was featured in the Trainspotting film and soundtrack, which was release on this day in 1996. Written by David Bowie and Iggy Pop, the song was written and recorded in Berlin and features David Bowie on piano with a Roland drum machine. The drum sound was kept despite Bowie wanting a real drummer. The lyrics were a result of Bowie wanting to write about "walking through the night like ghosts".
They're out of Manhattan, and Kazuashita is their first LP since 2011's Eye Contact. What's the album name mean? "Our friend Taka Imamura had a baby last year, and Kazuashita is the name of the baby. It has a double meaning; it’s not like a direct translation, but it’s a weird Japanese play on words, an amalgamation of two different words that then translates to the phrase “peace tomorrow.” Taka is sort of a member of Gang Gang Dance, even though he’s not really joining us on this one.
