Today is the birthday of American singer-songwriter and guitarist, Elliott Smith, born this day in 1969. This album contains a more full-sounding, baroque pop sound than any of his previous efforts, with songs featuring a horn section, Chamberlins, elaborate string arrangements, and even a drum loop on the song "Independence Day"
Decker. will be in Seattle at the Conor Byrne on 10/25. He is a singer/songwriter based in Sedona, Arizona. An apt description would be musical mystic. He, himself, describes his sound as “psychedelic desert folk,” drawing inspiration directly from the vortexes of the red rock mountains and canyons where he resides.

Pet Shop Boys released this single in 1985 and then in 1986, gaining greater popularity in both the United Kingdom and United States with its second release, reaching number 11 in the UK Singles Chart and number 10 in the US Billboard Hot 100. The song's indirect attack on its subject matter exemplifies the Pet Shop Boys as ironists in their songwriting.

The synthesizer melody in the chorus of "Love to Hate You" is an interpolation of the string break from the Gloria Gaynor disco-era classic "I Will Survive"
"Everything Counts" was released in 1983 and re-released (in live format) in 1989 to support the live album 101. The single introduced a transition in lyrical content for the group. "Everything Counts" specifically addressed the issue of corporate greed and corruption in Britain, as the chorus sings of "grabbing hands" that "grab all they can".
This box set documents the band's 2005 and 2006 shows at The Gorge Amphitheatre in George, Washington. The band's first show took place in September 1, 2005 at the beginning of its fall 2005 North American tour, while the two July 2006 shows concluded the second North American leg of the band's 2006 tour. Between the three concerts, there were sixty-nine individual songs performed.

Seattle's Spesh calls up the rowdy spirits of Madchester and Northern psychedelia on their forthcoming debut album, Famous World. Driven by hi-hat-punishing propulsion and ascending chords, intertwining lines and a sense of overcast optimism. The band says of the song: "Teflon was written to capture a short blip in time which everyone experiences at least once, if not many times in their lives."
Drive that Fast is a 1991 EP from UK alternative rock group Kitchens of Distinction. The EP follows the studio album Love is Hell. The title track later appeared on the full-length album Strange Free World.

This 2010 album from Sufjan Stevens features heavy use of electronics augmented by orchestration, and takes inspiration from the apocalyptic artwork of schizophrenic artist Royal Robertson. Stevens' use of electronics marked a radical departure from much of his previous work—most notably from Seven Swans and Michigan. Unlike Illinois, the lyrics do not explore events, characters or setting, but deal instead with themes and emotions on a personal level.

Sub Pop release #1187. This rousing single was originally recorded as part of the 30 Days, 30 Songs project, an initiative led by author Dave Eggers (founder of literary magazine, McSweeney’s) where 30 musicians released a song for every of the last 30 days leading to the 2016 election.
For "Before the Wall”, Craft released the statement: "This song was not written for any politician or agenda. It was written for people and the country I live in. I'm not some unduly political loudmouth and I'm certainly not saying you have to swallow this pill, but for a moment, just think about that wall and what it means to you... Then think about what it means to the people on the other side. Smile at people you don't have to, love each other. I'll do the same."
