While well received by critics upon its release, Nothing's Shocking failed to make much of an impression on mainstream radio and MTV. Eventually it was ranked #312 on Rolling Stone's "500 Greatest Albums of All-Time." Nothing's Shocking is also included in the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die.
The term “transatlanticism” was coined by Ben Gibbard to define the incomprehensible emotional gap between two lovers separated by comprehensible distances—the continental United States, an entire ocean, or, most likely, just a couple floors in your freshman dorm.
In a 2009 interview with Clash Magazine, lead singer Ian Brown explained that he "didn't actually want people to adore me. I was trying to say then, if you want to be adored, it's like a sin, like lust or gluttony or something like that."
Now expanded to a four-piece, Ellis is the project of Linnea Siggelkow and they're scheduled to release an EP this fall. Here’s what Siggelkow had to say about "The Drain":
"The Drain" is one of the first songs I wrote for this project. It’s probably also the most hopeful. It’s about self-sabotaging a relationship because you’re afraid of how deep it’s getting, but then saying “fuck it” and diving in anyway.

Describing "Teflon," Spesh say that it
"was written to capture a short blip in time which everyone experiences at least once, if not many times in their lives. A beautiful, confusing, sad, and wonderful feeling that cannot be articulated in words, but is more of a feeling. It was written in early January of 2018 in Seattle, WA and inspired by drab rainy weather, and the lack of opportunity to spend any significant amount of time outside. Where better to spend your time but in your own head with a friend from your past and a pretty tune?"

Upon its release, "Vapour Trail" received critical acclaim. Pitchfork voted it as number 145 on their Top 200 Tracks of the 90s, and said that the song "remains immense, standing tall as the most gripping four-and-half-minutes of their career."

Happy birthday to Kristin Hersh!
No too much should be read into the lyrics of this song. As Paul Simon explained in an interview with Rolling Stone:
"Every day I'd come back from the studio, working on whatever we were working on, and I'd play this pounding thing. So then I said, 'Let's make a record out of that.' So we copied it over and extended it double the amount, so now we have three minutes of track, and the track is great. So now I pick up the guitar and I start to go, 'Well, this will be like the guitar part' - dung chicka dung chicka dung, and lyrics were virtually the first lines I said: 'You're breakin' my heart, I'm down on my knees.' They're not lines at all, but it was right for that song, and I like that. It was like a little piece of magical fluff, but it works."

In an interview, Chris Cornell said:
"Right after Andy died, we [Soundgarden] went to Europe, and it was horrible, because I couldn't talk about it, and there was no one who had loved him around. I wrote two songs, "Reach Down" and "Say Hello 2 Heaven". That was pretty much how I dealt with it. When we came back, I recorded them right away. They seemed different from what Soundgarden naturally does, and they seemed to fit together. They seemed like music he would like. I got the idea to release them as a single, and to get at least Stone and Jeff, or all of Love Bone, to play on it. I had the idea for a couple days, then, with an artist's lack of self-confidence, I decided it was a stupid idea. Somehow those guys heard the tape, and they were really, really excited. Stone and Jeff and our drummer, Matt, had been working on a demo for what ended up being Pearl Jam, so we had the idea that we would make an EP or a record, and maybe even do some of Andy's solo songs.

World Shut Your Mouth was written during Cope's 1983 retreat to the village of Drayton Bassett (close to his childhood home of Tamworth), following the breakup of Cope's former band The Teardrop Explodes. Two of the tracks, "Metranil Vavin" and "Pussyface," had in fact been intended for The Teardrop Explodes and different versions of each appear on the belated 1990 release of the band's scrapped third album.

"I first discovered The Twinkeyz 45 'Aliens In Our Midst' in the late '70s when I was working for Subway Records in Cincinnati, Ohio," Chuck Cleaver wrote in a note to Noisey. "White vinyl with a picture sleeve and a comic book insert (I still have it). I loved the raw simplicity of it and thought the words were particularly wonderful. Wussy started playing it in our live sets a couple of years back and it’s gotten such a positive response that we decided to record it and put it on our newest record, What Heaven Is Like. Not to slight the others, but it’s actually my favorite song on the album. And considering the current shit storm, the words are as relevant as they’ve ever been. ALL HAIL THE TWINKEYZ!!!"
I wonder if someone on this Third Man release could be playing in Seattle Monday? If only there were a way you could win tickets...
