'Pink Moon' was the title track for the third and final studio album by Nick Drake. This album has often been attributed to Drake's ongoing battle with depression, but Cally Calloman of Bryter Music, which manages Drake's estate, remembers it differently: "Nick was incapable of writing and recording while he was suffering from periods of depression. He was not depressed during the writing or recording of Pink Moon and was immensely proud of the album."

This song became widely popular during the Disco period and is widely credited as "one of the most influential records ever made", originating electronic dance music. Italian producer Giorgio Moroder described Summer's work with him on the song as "really the start of electronic dance" music. And in 2011, the Library of Congress added the song to the National Recording Registry, deeming it "culturally, historically, or aesthetically important". And you thought disco sucked. #sucker

Composer credit on this song goes to Franklin with her sister (and backup singer) Carolyn and sax player King Curtis. The song is basically a rewrite of the 1966 track "Help Me" by the R&B singer Ray Sharpe, who wrote the song with Curtis and performed it with the King Curtis Orchestra. Also on that original recording is some dude named Jimi Hendrix, who played guitar in Sharpe's band.
This track is originally off of Wonder's 1976 album 'Songs In The Key Of Life' and is a tribute to Duke Ellington, who died in 1974.
