Like "A Hard Day's Night," the title came from an expression Ringo Starr used. The proper idiom is "tomorrow never comes," meaning that when tomorrow arrived, it would become today. Ringo's variation of the phrase took the edge off the heavy philosophical lyrics. Working titles for the song before Ringo gave them inspiration were "Mark I" and "The Void."
The song was driven primarily by Beastie Boy Adam Yauch (MCA). As a practicing Buddhist, he had taken the Bodhisattva vow, which is a promise to liberate all sentient beings from suffering by practicing the six perfections of giving, moral discipline, patience, effort, concentration, and wisdom. Yauch began his serious study of Buddhism after attending a Dalai Lama lecture in spring 1993, in the midst of recording the "Check Your Head" album.

“'Grow Into It' is an album about the aging process and growth,” Nicola Leel says. “Lyrically, I wanted to write an album about getting older that was an antithesis of the overdone trope of male bands singing about rejecting adulthood and wanting to stay young and get wasted with their friends forever. Instead, 'Grow Into It' is about finding light and freedom in age and finding autonomy in death.”

The Dandy Warhols lead singer Courtney Taylor-Taylor was born Courtney Taylor, but he informally added another "Taylor" to his name in 1999. It's unclear as to why exactly the singer took on the extra moniker, but one theory suggests that it came from an incident where he repeated his name for clarity while leaving a phone message. The recipient then mistook his last name as "Taylor-Taylor."
