Regarding her new album “Hunter,” Anna Calvi says “I'm hunting for something - I want experiences, I want agency, I want sexual freedom, I want intimacy, I want to feel strong, I want to feel protected and I want to find something beautiful in all the mess. I want to go beyond gender. I don’t want to have to chose between the male and female in me. I’m fighting against feeling an outsider and trying to find a place that feels like home.”

Of her childhood, singer Natasha Khan says she was subject to racial abuse during secondary school for being Pakistani, played truant, and was suspended after swearing and throwing a chair at a teacher. She told The Daily Telegraph: "I was an outsider at school. When I came back from being suspended they had told the small group of friends that I did have there that they weren't allowed to talk to me because I was a really bad influence. Then it got quite lonely."

Regarding the video and subject matter for her song “Kong,” Cherry says “Since 2016, the human mass exodus, the displaced people of the world, migration, and all of that has really escalated. We wanted to make something that was both paying tribute to cultural diversity and recognizing the fact that we forget that people are moving away from lives and loves and places — not places they want to leave at all. The song, and much of the forthcoming album, is a collaberation with Massive Attack’s Cameron McVey (who’s also her husband).

The song’s Wikipedia page refers to this story as having “become part of the Duran Duran legend,” and while that sounds a bit melodramatic, it’s not untrue. While in the employ of Paul and Michael Berrow, who ran the Birmingham nightclub known as The Rum Runner, one of the club’s barmaids suggested that her ex-boyfriend might make a good singer for the band. In short order, Simon Le Bon auditioned for the gig, and when he did, he came armed with a collection of poetry and lyrics, including – you guessed it – the lyrics which soon found their way into “The Chauffeur.” www.duranduran.com

Handsome Boy Modeling School is a collaborative project between hip hop producers Dan the Automator (Gorillaz, Dr. Octagon, Deltron 3030) and Prince Paul (Stetsasonic, De La Soul, Gravediggaz, A Prince Among Thieves). The collaboration originally lasted from 1999 to 2006 and resulted in two albums, featuring a vast cast of guest rappers, singers, comedians and DJs. As of February 2018, the two reportedly have reunited, and plan to release a new album. The concept for Handsome Boy was intended to mock the hopelessly self-absorbed, materialistic and narcissistic tendencies of upper class society. Prince Paul reinvented himself as Chest Rockwell while Dan adopted the Nathaniel Merriweather persona.

Michael writes, "Hey john, just learned my hs buddy from back in Vermont took his life last week. Unfortunately he suffered mental illness and depression. Class valedictorian, insanely bright doctor who chose family medicine over many more lucrative careers to help others. Such a tragedy.
I love that Kexp helps create a dialouge about mental illness and depression! It's one of the many reasons why I lug my ass down to the studio to help with the fundraisers.
Brian and i loved listening all kinds of tunes together while driving up to the mountains in Vermont. Could you pick a song with a Vermont connection on his behalf and try to play it sometime?"
