Kate will release remastered versions of her album catalogue on vinyl and CD in November. This includes the release of many rarities and cover versions on vinyl and CD for the first time.
The vinyl albums – all Kate’s studio work – will be released in 4 separate boxes, the first two on November 16 and the latter two on November 30. The CD boxes will be staggered on the same dates. The live album ‘Before The Dawn’ is included in CD Box 2 in its original mastered form.
The albums, many of which have been unavailable on vinyl for a decade, have been remastered by Kate and James Guthrie. Kate’s 10 studio albums are spread over 3 vinyl boxes, whilst the 4th box contains many rarities previously unavailable on vinyl, including a whole disc of cover versions. Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers, and Lucy Dacus have formed a new band. Together, they are boygenius. They’ve also announced their debut release: the boygenius EP is out November 9 via Matador. In November, Baker, Bridgers, and Dacus will embark on a North American tour together. The shows will features solo sets from each artist and they'll be at The Moore on November 24th!
To celebrate the 30th anniversary of their debut album, the band have announced a six date British tour in November including a special headline concert in London at the Roundhouse. For those of you lucky enough to be in the UK!

In his 2003 interview with Performing Songwriter magazine, Bowie explains that the song "Inchworm," which was sung by Danny Kaye in the 1952 movie Hans Christian Andersen, was a big influence on "Ashes To Ashes." Said Bowie: "I loved it as a kid and it's stayed with me forever. I keep going back to it. You wouldn't believe the amount of my songs that have sort of spun off that one song. Not that you'd really recognize it. Something like 'Ashes to Ashes' wouldn't have happened if it hadn't have been for 'Inchworm.' There's a child's nursery rhyme element in it, and there's something so sad and mournful and poignant about it. It kept bringing me back to the feelings of those pure thoughts of sadness that you have as a child, and how they're so identifiable even when you're an adult. There's a connection that can be made between being a somewhat lost five-year old and feeling a little abandoned and having the same feeling when you're in your twenties. And it was that song that did that for me."
Unrest formed in 1983 at Wakefield High School in Arlington, Virginia (just outside of Washington, DC). They began as an improv instrumental band, taping every practice and never playing the same thing twice. Material seemed to be influenced by everything from punk to funk to Ennio Morricone. Unrest issued several recordings (often in cassette form) via frontman Mark Robinson's DIY label Teen Beat.
Not many people can claim to have had a life-changing epiphany in a guitar shop in Doncaster, but 29-year-old solicitor Matthew Macefield is among them. "I was talking to the guy behind the counter about the La's, and suddenly There She Goes came on the radio. I don't want to turn it into some mystical experience or anything," he says, sounding a little sheepish, "but that was the point where I thought, 'I don't want to ignore this any longer.'"
"This" was Macefield's idea to track down the man he calls "the JD Salinger of rock", La's singer-songwriter Lee Mavers, and write a book about his experiences. It was to take up the next four and a half years of Macefield's life. Read about his search here.

At his home studio, National Freedom, he recorded and produced stars like Damien Jurado, Foxygen, the Fruit Bats and dozens more.
Guitarist, Johnny Marr, told Guitar Player that this was The Smiths' answer to The Rolling Stones' "Jumpin' Jack Flash": "With 'Bigmouth Strikes Again', I was trying to write my 'Jumpin' Jack Flash.' I wanted something that was a rush all the way through, without a distinct middle eight as such."

The word "first" comes up a lot when talking about the latest album from Cat Power. It's the singer's first in six years, her first since giving birth to a son (notice his forehead peeking out on the album cover) and her first since leaving Matador, her longtime record label. The Wanderer tour brings her to Showbox SoDo on November 17th
Today is John Lennon's birthday. He would have been 78. John Lennon wrote and recorded this song in one day, which was either January 26 or 27, 1970, depending on the source. It was unusual in the Beatles era for a song to be written and put into tape the same day. Lennon told Rolling Stone in January 1971 about the recording of this song and its quick turnaround: "I wrote it in the morning on the piano. I went to the office and sang it many times. So I said 'Hell, let's do it,' and we booked the studio, and Phil came in, and said, 'How do you want it?' I said, 'You know, 1950's.' He said, 'right,' and boom, I did it in about three goes or something like that. I went in and he played it back and there it was. The only argument was that I said a bit more bass, that's all; and off we went."

The band was in an altered state throughout recording the Low-Life album, relying on a cadre of engineers to piece together the tracks in a meticulous manner. Bernard Sumner says that the drug influence on their playing is quite evident on this track. He told Q magazine: "Listen to 'Love Vigilantes.' Listen to that chordal guitar solo. Listen to how fast it is. Impossible to recreate under normal circumstances."

Seventh Dream of Teenage Heaven is the debut studio album by Love and Rockets. AllMusic wrote, "Though the years have deadened its impact somewhat, there is still a visceral thrill to be drawn from replaying the first Love and Rockets album, a sense of the first step taken towards a brave new world", calling the album "as profound an experience as any of the lauded trips of the original psychedelic era."
