Of this album, Cherry says "...It’s very much about saying things but also about listening, hearing and digesting. But I think that I’d be wary of saying what are the answers. We’re trying to figure out, like a lot of us, how do we move forward? How does one stay hopeful in life right now?”

Songwriter Jay Clancy says about this album and their band "I feel like people are kind of brushing off guitar rock, it's not something that's super cool right now - at least not in the mainstream,” Clancy says. “So we're trying to tap into that base of people who are still really into that music and have an appreciation for it." They play Barboza on Friday, November 23rd and hit Easy Street and Sonic Boom Records the week before.

Trespasser, is a product of staying in his grandmother's cottage in the Gulf Islands outside of Vancouver, BC. d’Ecco hadn’t planned on creating a new project. But, as it often does, circumstance charted his course. His grandmother, living with Alzheimer’s, suffered a related phenomenon called ‘sundowning,’ which triggers increased agitation and anxiety around sunset. “The only way to calm this lady down was to sit down at the piano,” says d’Ecco. He would play “Bohemian Rhapsody,” passing it off as Beethoven. “She would sit there for a couple hours just listening to me noodle away.”

After the suicide of Joy Division's singer Ian Curtis in May 1980, the remaining members of the band, Bernard Sumner, Peter Hook and Stephen Morris elected to carry on as New Order. A couple of songs on Movement stem from the initial songwriting session the band undertook in the summer of 1980. "Dreams Never End" and "Truth" were both played at the initial New Order concerts (still played as trio) in the US that September. At this point it was still undecided as to who should be vocalist. The interim solution was that all three members took turns at singing before finally deciding that Bernard Sumner should take the main vocalist's role with Peter Hook as back-up (though he sang lead on "Dreams Never End" and "Doubts Even Here").

The former Smiths frontman recently recorded his version of “Back on the Chain Gang” for an upcoming double-vinyl reissue of his Low in High School album, out December 7th. As only he could do, Morrissey tells Rolling Stone, “Chrissie is one of my longest and enduring friendships,” he said. “I don’t have many. ... Chrissie is the funniest person in the world, yet she has absolutely no sense of humor. We have been in many absurd situations – all her fault, of course. I know she’d marry me tomorrow, but she’s already had 11 husbands and she’s always being spotted digging in the garden at midnight.”

So much time had been spent on (this recording) that producer Brian Eno thought it would be best to start from scratch. His idea was to "stage an accident" and have the song's tapes erased. He said that this was not to force abandonment of the song, but rather that it would be more effective to start again with a fresh performance. At one point, Eno had the tapes cued up and ready to be recorded over, but this erasure never took place; according to engineer Flood, fellow engineer Pat McCarthy returned to the control room and upon seeing Eno ready to erase the tapes, dropped the tray of tea he was carrying and physically restrained Eno.

Christopher writes: "Hi! Hoping you can play Frontier Psychiatrist by The Avalanches for my son Eddy. He turns 11 today and is a huge KEXP fan and all around amazing kid...that always reminds us to donate!" Happy birthday Eddy! The prominent orchestral sample heard throughout the track is sourced from a recording by the Enoch Light Singers of the 1968 composition "My Way of Life". The track also contains several vocal samples of Canadian comedy duo Wayne and Shuster, the most prominent of these samples taken from the duo's comedy routine "Frontier Psychiatrist". Only the aforementioned two samples are credited in the liner notes of Since I Left You; various other uncredited samples are used in the track, with sources ranging from golf instructionals, Christian records and "Reading for the Blind" tapes. The spoken sample at the beginning ("Is Dexter ill?") comes from the John Waters film Polyester, followed by Maurice Jarre's overture from Lawrence of Arabia.

For dad Brian from Susannah."Straighten Up and Fly Right" is a 1943 song written by Nat King Cole and Irving Mills and performed by The King Cole Trio. It was the trio's most popular single reaching number one on the Harlem Hit Parade for ten nonconsecutive weeks. The single also peaked at number nine on the pop charts. "Straighten Up and Fly Right" also reached number one for six nonconsecutive weeks on the Most Played Jukebox Hillbilly Records. The song was based on a black folk tale that Cole's father had used as a theme for one of his sermons. In the tale, a buzzard takes different animals for a joy ride. When he gets hungry, he throws them off on a dive and eats them for dinner. A monkey who had observed this trick goes for a ride; he wraps his tail around the buzzard's neck and gives the buzzard a big surprise by nearly choking him to death.

"Under the Milky Way" was written by Church frontman Steve Kilbey and Karin Jansson of Curious (Yellow). Kilbey said, "I smoked a joint and started playing the piano and she came in the room and we just made it up." "Under the Milky Way" features a 12-string acoustic guitar melody along with a solo composed with an EBow on a Fender Jazzmaster, and recorded on a Synclavier, leading to a sound reminiscent of bagpipes. So that clears that up.

While Joy Division was recording (this song), U2 went to see producer Martin Hannett about recording their first album, Boy. Bono said of the encounter: Talking to Ian Curtis is ... or was a strange experience because he's very warm ... he talked—it was like two people inside of him—he talked very light, and he talked very well-mannered, and very polite. But when he got behind the microphone he really surged forth; there was another energy. It seemed like he was just two people and, you know, "Love Will Tear Us Apart", it was like [when] that record was released ... it was like, as if, there were the personalities, separate; there they were, torn apart."

...that the original must be played. As the story goes...In early 1990, Nirvana began planning its second album for Sub Pop, tentatively titled Sheep. For the album, Sub Pop head Bruce Pavitt suggested Butch Vig as a potential producer. Nirvana particularly liked Vig's work with Killdozer and called Vig up to tell him, "We want to sound as heavy as that record." The band traveled out to Vig's Smart Studios in Madison, Wisconsin, recording from April 2 to 6, 1990. Most of the basic song arrangements were completed by that time, but Cobain was still working on lyrics and the band was unsure of which songs to record. Ultimately, eight songs were recorded: "Immodium" (later renamed "Breed"), "Dive" (later released as the B-side to "Sliver"), "In Bloom", "Pay to Play" (eventually renamed "Stay Away" and given a new set of lyrics),etc.

Singer/songwriter Ritzy Bryan says this song "... is very piece-mealed from observations around the time [of the election] results...I definitely was trying to touch on the lacking sense of compassion of people these days. The administration in the States is [messing] with people’s ability to be kind and compassionate.” Bryan said. “They feed off people’s fear and intolerance instead of kindness, love and empathy.”

The term "meter-maid", largely unknown in the UK prior to the song's release, is American slang for a female traffic warden. According to some sources, the song originates from when a female traffic warden named Meta Davies issued a parking ticket to McCartney outside Abbey Road Studios. Instead of becoming angry, he accepted it with good grace and expressed his feelings in song. When asked why he had called her "Rita," McCartney replied, "Well, she looked like a Rita to me".

The Portland, Maine trio's lead singer Sonia says of this batch of songs. "...sometimes, things look good on the outside, but they’re not working. That’s how it used to be for me. I’d hear, ‘You have a really cool job. You live in a cool city. Your band is cool.’ It was ‘Common Blah’ though because I was miserable. I didn’t care. Now, I’m at the other end of the spectrum. People do something that they think they’re supposed to do when it’s not what they should be doing and it doesn’t make them happy. In a lot of ways, this is the first time I’ve found happiness. I wrote the lyrics about the time before that happiness.”

In an article in the Guardian, Kim Deal reflects on her addictions in the 1990s. Kim Deal’s memories of the 90s are often incomplete, but she remembers that during one particularly chaotic tour, with her post-Breeders project the Amps, she and drummer Jim Macpherson fell out so badly that the two did not speak for 15 years. “That tour was … Oh, my goodness gracious,” Kim continues. “Wasn’t that the first time I blacked out on stage? First time ever? I blacked out on one song and came out on another?” “Yeah,” Jim sighs. “Drink,” says Kim, simply. “I think it was pretty horrible.” www.theguardian.com
