Chris Cornell wrote "Say Hello 2 Heaven" and "Reach Down" when he was on tour with Soundgarden and he approached former Mother Love Bone members Jeff Ament and Stone Gossard to record the songs. They originally just planned to release these songs as a single, but decided to form Temple of the Dog and write more music.
Screaming Trees were from Ellensburg, Washington and were active from 1985 until their break up in 2000. During their time as a band, they released seven studio albums, five EPs, and three compilations.
Their fourth studio album, 'Superunknown' was a critical and commercial success and became the band's breakthrough album. It debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, selling 310,000 copies in its opening week and reached high positions on charts worldwide. Five singles were released from the album: "The Day I Tried to Live", "My Wave", "Fell on Black Days", "Spoonman", and "Black Hole Sun", the latter two of which won Grammy Awards and helped Soundgarden reach mainstream popularity. The soundtrack to Cameron Crowe’s 'Singles' has long been heralded as a turning point in the Seattle grunge movement. Packed with tracks from Pearl Jam, Soundgarden and Mudhoney, the OST was certified twice platinum, and helped further indoctrinate grunge into the American music canon.

Charlotte Gainsbourg has announced a new EP called 'Take 2'. The five-track project, which features her cover of Kanye West’s “Runaway,” is out December 14. "Such A Remarkable Day" is the first release from the EP.

'Sandanista' was released 38 years ago today as a triple album containing 36 tracks, with 6 songs on each side.Anticipating the "world music" trend of the 1980s, it features funk, reggae, jazz, gospel, rockabilly, folk, dub, rhythm and blues, calypso, disco, and rap. For the first time, the band's traditional songwriting credits of Strummer and Jones were replaced by a generic credit to the Clash, and the band agreed to a decrease in album royalties in order to release the 3-LP at a low price.
In 2008, a poll of the staff rock critics of the Irish Times rated 'I Am the Greatest' as the third best Irish album of all time. This put it behind only 'Loveless' by My Bloody Valentine and 'Achtung Baby' by U2.

"Holland, 1945" was one of the last songs Neutral Milk Hotel frontman Jeff Mangum wrote for 'In the Aeroplane Over the Sea'. It remained untitled until art director Chris Bilheimer asked Mangum what to title the song in the liner notes; when Mangum told him to use either "Holland" or "1945", Bilheimer suggested combining the two. Genius!
