Originally released on 'The Colour of Spring' album, this song was one of the last to be conceived for the album following concern from the band's management that there was no obvious single among accumulated work. The band had a drum pattern loosely inspired by Kate Bush's "Running Up That Hill" and they built upon that. The song became one of their biggest hits.
'Dusk' is the fourth studio album by The The and features lots of Johnny Marr on it adding signature guitar and harmonica touches to the could’ve-been-a-Smiths-hit “Slow Emotion Replay” and a funky flash of wah-wah to “Sodium Light Baby.” Marr said in 2002 he was as proud of 'Dusk as the Smiths’ 'Strangeways, Here We Come'

According to Mr Dylan "This was definitely a song with a purpose. It was influenced of course by the Irish and Scottish ballads …’Come All Ye Bold Highway Men’, ‘Come All Ye Tender Hearted Maidens’. I wanted to write a big song, with short concise verses that piled up on each other in a hypnotic way.
