To craft the language of Dionysus, Brendan Perry used a computer plug-in of choral libraries that has an engine called a “Syllabuilder.” “It’s basically a directory of sung syllables, which you can then put together into phrases and sentences from a directory,” he explains. “You can invent your own words and phrases, and then you can play them polyphonically. You can have a whole group singing the same phrase in different harmonies. So I made a combination of that with Lisa’s and my voices to create the ensemble effect.” “I have no idea what language is on the album,” Lisa Gerrard says. “I think the album is very much about Brendan unlocking his own language. He’s always been a genius and a remarkable composer, but I think that in this album he is coming to something very innocent and brave.”

“Ar.Mour has one foot in the past and one foot in the future, it's a sound that I'm experimenting with right now. In my head, I was trying to create something that was “Post-Modern Bboy”, working with my two favourite young musicians from London, Poet/Rapper Elliott Power and Singer/Producer Miink.I wanted to create something that was like Blade Runner meets contemporary London, with a sound-system aesthetic, a sort of kru cut.” - Creative force behind UNKLE, James Lavelle

Bono wrote this after flying a kite with his two daughters. He was not used to flying kites. It crashed and they went home to play video games. The incident brought him back to his childhood when his father had the same disastrous luck with a kite. Bono, who was about to lose his father to cancer, pondered his own mortality: "I wasn't sure of my own well-being. I just wanted to have some songs that would, in a way, tell my kids something about who their father was."

Speaking about Swervedriver’s latest return to action, vocalist/guitarist Adam Franklin remarked: “I love being back in this band. We’re playing places that we’ve either not played in a long time or new places, like Singapore, where there were 20 year old kids there and they’re singing the words to the new songs… “We don’t want to be the band that just plays the old albums. We’re glad to have a whole bunch of new songs. We’re on it again.” ‘Future Ruins’ is the second Swervedriver album to emerge in the last four years. Prior to that, the band released four albums between 1991 and 1998, ending with the release of ’99th Dream’ – which came out the same year that the band first initially decided to split.

The song is best known as the opening theme music for The Sopranos, which used the "Chosen One Mix." Alabama 3 frontman Rob Spragg wrote the song after hearing about the 1996 murder case of Sara Thornton, who stabbed her husband after two years of abuse, mistreatment and neglect. "We started with a Howlin' Wolf loop, but a lot of blues lyrics are quite misogynist," Spragg explained. "So I turned it round to be about a woman who's had enough and gets a gun – it's quite ironic that it's become a New Jersey gangster anthem."

“After making music for the past twenty years and embarking on making this record with Danger Mouse I knew a couple things: one was that the spirit of collaboration between us was going to be a pure one, and two was that the more I live the less is clear to me,” said Karen O of the album. “When you create from a blurry place you can go places further than you’ve ever been. I think we both were excited to go far out.”

Guy Garvey on Build A Rocket Boys! "We had a pair of young ladies called Cupid's Bow come in and play cello for us. We also crane-lifted a grand piano into the top floor of the studio. Windows had to be removed and it took 12 hours to complete. The 55-strong Halle Youth Choir gave up a Sunday to come in and sing a number of songs. I felt a bit cheeky asking such well-trained vocalists to sound a bit more 'Manc' but they were up to it. So many real musicians under one roof, we were very flattered that they agreed to work with us."

In a 1986 interview, Hutchence said the song was about "kids and conditioning. Growing up. How you grow up through other people's ideas or your own." It was a bold move for the '80s, when many kids were still clinging to their parents' views of segregated relationships. Daring to tell a white boy and black girl to "play with fire" and "dream on, the name of love" got the song banned from some US radio stations.

Yesterday, the University of Limerick conferred Honorary Doctorates of Letters on the band members of The Cranberries. Guitarist Noel Hogan, bassist Mike Hogan were presented with an Honorary Doctorate of Letters. The Cranberries drummer Fergal Lawler was unable to attend and his doctorate was accepted on his behalf by Mike Hogan. Eileen O’Riordan, mother of lead singer Dolores O’Riordan, who tragically passed away this time last year, was presented with a posthumous Honorary Doctorate of Letters for Dolores O’Riordan. UL President Dr Des Fitzgerald said “UL had initially planned to present these doctorates to The Cranberries in April 2017 however promotional and rehearsal commitments prevented the band from being available to accept the honour at that stage. It is with very sad regret that since that time the world and more importantly her family and band mates have lost Dolores O’Riordan and her incredible voice. We very much appreciate her family’s presence here today and particularly her mother Eileen who is accepting this Honorary Doctorate on Dolores’ behalf.’

Neil Tennant's lyrics were written as a satire of Thatcherism and its embodiment in conspicuous consumption in the United Kingdom during the 1980s. The Pet Shop singer penned them after keyboardist Chris Lowe, asked him to make up a lyric based around the line "Let's make lots of money. Tennant commented to Mojo magazine August 2013: "It's a simple message isn't it? 'I've got the brains, you've got the looks, let's make lots of money.' A very insensitive thing that was meant to be a satire of Thatcherism. Actually, we'd written the Thatcherite anthem. But it's very difficult to think, now, that there was a period before money culture. That was the changing moment. It wasn't even an original thing to say because it was at the same time as Loadsamoney, Harry Enfield. It was that period where suddenly one's sensitive left-wing soul was shocked by everything being about money. Now, of course, generations have grown that haven't known anything else."
