#419 - Steve Albini is an American musician, record producer, audio engineer and music journalist. He produced Slint's debut album, Tweez. Albini is also known for his outspoken views on the music industry, having stated repeatedly that it financially exploits artists and homogenizes their sound. Nearly alone among well-known producers, Albini refuses to take ongoing royalties from album sales, feeling that a producer's job is to record the music to the band's desires, and that paying a producer as if they had contributed artistically to an album is unethical.

#407 - For the album, Loretta Lynn worked with the core band of guitarist Jack White, drummer Patrick Keeler, bassist Jack Lawrence, and pedal steel guitarist Dave Feeney. The Midwest rock crew turn “Portland, Oregon” into a bluesy romp, with heavy accents balanced by a slow-building instrumental intro. “I didn’t know [Jack] was gonna sing with me on ‘Portland, Oregon,'” says Lynn. “I walked in the studio and I said, ‘Who is that man singing it with me, Jack?’ and he said, ‘That’s me.’ I like Jack. Anything he did I thought was cool.”

#395 - "Birthday" is the song that brought Björk into the popular American consciousness. Released in August 1987 on the Sugarcubes debut album Life's Too Good, it was the band's first international single. The song is notable for Bjork's unique vocal gymnastics and for its odd lyrics about a girl who "threads worms on a string," "keeps spiders in her pocket," and "collects fly wings in a jar."

#392 - Johnny Greenwood told NPR how the group recorded the track. "This song was one of the rare chances of getting our hands on an unfinished song, so we could put strings on right at the beginning," he said. "Usually strings are an afterthought, decoration on the end of a song. I've been saying for years, wouldn't it be great to start with strings." "So this song was just Thom singing in a drum machine and nothing else," Greenwood continued. "And then I wrote strings to that. So you're hearing an orchestra play - they're strumming their violins with guitar plectrums, that's the rhythm."
