Just Mustard are a five-piece band from Dundalk, Ireland. Speaking to about the video to "Frank", singer Katie Ball explained: “We thought it would be interesting to use stop motion animation to emphasise the broken rhythms of the song. Every character and prop in the video and their interactions represents a different musical or thematic element of the song to us. We wrote and directed it together as a band and collaborated with filmmaker Tim Shearwood who shot and edited it.” See the video here: bit.ly

The Guardian called this song, alongside the Chemical Brothers' "Setting Sun", the "most experimental and sonically extreme hit of the 90s." The newspaper also named it among "the weirdest chart [hits] of all time."

"The conceit of this ninth Chemical Brothers album is a tantalising one: dusting down the kit used on their first two acclaimed albums, Exit Planet Dust (1995) and Dig Your Own Hole (1997). Tom Rowlands and Ed Simons have not just endured but prospered since their heyday by redeploying a familiar bag of signifiers – muscular beats, upfront vocals – to reliable effect." Craig says this about the upcoming album, I Need a New War: "Going in, I saw this record as the third part of a trilogy. Thematically, this was the third group of songs that I had written about smaller moments – people trying to stay afloat in modern times, attempting to find connection, achieving tiny triumphs and frustrating let downs in their day to day lives. Perhaps forward motion is everything. The characters in the songs on this record, and the last two, are trying to keep up and keep their heads above water. They succeed or they don’t, but their stories are the tales of their attempts at pushing ahead. And so, with my own push forward, I feel lucky and excited to be sharing these songs and stories."

Slowdive’s Rachel Goswell has lent her talents to a number of projects over the last few years, from the supergroup Minor Victories to collaborations with Mark Kozelek and Beach Fossils. She also, of course, played a large part in Slowdive’s 2017 comeback album. Today, she’s announcing a new band named the Soft Cavalry, which is a duo with her husband Steve Clarke, who she married last year. In July, they’ll release their self-titled debut album. “I’d always had ideas but never felt that anything I had to say was worthy of anyone’s attention, let alone my own,” Clarke said of the collaboration. “I wish that I could have done this fifteen years ago but, in reality, I simply couldn’t have. But I’m not one to overly wallow. I’d rather plough the various levels of confusion into songs.” Pre-order here: bit.ly

Evocative Nigerian poetic imagery set against an edgy Afro-Electro soundscape gives the band a unique space within the wave of modern Afrocentric sounds sweeping the globe."

Rolling Stone's David Fricke described the song: "On the surface, 'Girlfriend Is Better' is a brassy, straightforward bump number sparked by Byrne's animated bragging ... and by the kind of rapid, zizagging synth squeals so common on rap and funk records. But the edgy paranoia smoldering underneath ... is colorfully articulated by guitar and percussion figures that burble along in a fatback echo, sounding like a sink backing up."

"... I vowed to myself that I would write less comic narratives and try to express my sentiments in a more forthright way. I feel I succeeded with "Bittersweet" though at the time I didn't think that a) the band would want to play it and b) our audience would want to hear it. I was happily wrong on both counts." - Frontman Dave Faulkner.

This song is a tribute to the music of the '50s and '60 that influenced The Ramones. Here's a breakdown of the lyrical references: "Hullabaloo" - A UK TV show featuring music and dancing that aired 1965-1966. "Upbeat" - The Upbeat Show, which was a Cleveland TV show (also with music and dancing) that aired 1964-1971. "Shindig" - The first prime time Rock music show, many top acts performed on the program. It aired 1964-1966. "Ed Sullivan" - Host of The Ed Sullivan Show, a popular variety show that lasted more than 20 years. Many famous musicians appeared on the show, including The Beatles, The Doors and The Rolling Stones. "Murray The K" - Murray "The K" Kaufman, a legendary disc jockey who helped promote rock n' roll in the States on his radio show and through concerts he helped organize. He championed The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and Bob Dylan. "Alan Freed" - Another very influential disc jockey, Freed is credited with coining the term "Rock And Roll." "Jerry Lee" - Jerry Lee Lewis was a rock originator known for his electrifying performances. "John Lennon" - Most punk bands wouldn't claim Lennon and The Beatles as an influence, but The Ramones were a nuanced group that shared an appreciation of his work. "T. Rex" - Glam Rock originators known for their outrageous costumes and stage presence. "Ol' Moulty" - Victor Moulton, who was the drummer in a group called The Barbarians.

The video, released in 1994, was relatively simple, showing the band sitting on a bench at a barber shop, waiting to get their hair cut. Some strange things happen to each band member when they go and sit on the barber's chair: Mark Ibold - He shakes his head to mess up his hair and then sneezes. The viewer finds out that he sneezed out a cat. He then gives it to the barber and goes back to the bench. Scott Kannberg - He comes up to the barber's chair dressed in a clothed gorilla suit and gets his hair cut. We then see him back in human form, and he goes back to the bench. Bob Nastanovich - When he gets up, he trips over the table of magazines in front of the bench they are sitting on. He tries to drink something out of a flask, and then attempts to drink the barber's Barbicide cleaning solution but the barber will not let him. Stephen Malkmus - The barber gives him a platter, a king's scepter, a martini, and a paper crown. We see a closeup of him with a tear rolling down his cheek. Steve West - He asks the barber to cut his hair. Just as he is about to do so, we see that West is suddenly wearing a lizard costume. The barber shakes his head, refusing to give him a haircut. Each band member has different clothes on when they go back to the bench. After their haircuts, all the band members leave the barbershop very quickly, with Ibold taking a magazine he had been looking at. See it here: bit.ly
