Good morning Seattle, and welcome to the Thursday edition of The Morning Show. In an interview with KEXP last month, Lea Porcelain told us how this song came to be: "The song was recorded after eight days of sleeping in the studio, while we were literally washing ourselves in the rivers by Funkhaus and ate only in the restaurant there, so we can go back quickly. On the eighth morning waking up there, slightly hungover and a little bit down from last night's idea that didn't work out, we met one of the owners and he said, we should rent a boat and chill because that is what they had done just this morning. So, we packed the ukulele and decided to go on a boat. On the way there, I played the ukulele and only hummed the chorus melody to it. Like it came from nowhere, we both turned to each other, recorded it with the phone and then went back, completely forgetting about the boat idea." | bit.ly

Brazilian producer Gui Boratto released Take My Breath Away in 2009. According to an interivew with DHA, 5 AM is his favorite time of day: "I like it at this time of day, there are zero distractions, and everybody in the city is still asleep so I can fully focus on my creativity and music." The Morning Show also gets to the studio at 5 AM, but who knows how focused we are during then....

"After months of touring my last album Babes Never Die, I finally came home to rest and developed increasingly vivid and frightening night terrors. At one point they were a weekly occurrence — the same figure would visit me each time hell-bent on either strangling or just plain scaring me to death! After learning much more about how night terrors are manifested, I was intrigued to learn that the brain cannot conjure a face out of nothing. The woman who visits me in my dreams was a real person I have seen while I’ve been awake. I wrote “She’s A Nightmare” about our strange relationship and however frightening, I am absolutely captivated by her." - Getting The Cure's "Lullaby" vibes from this one, which is never a bad thing. From Roosevelt about this cover: “We‘ve been playing this Fleetwood Mac cover for few months in the live set now,” said Lauber, “and I’ve always wanted to record it properly. This was a great opportunity to do so, coming straight from the tour and still knowing how the energy of the crowd felt every night. It‘s an all-time favourite of mine and while nothing touches the original, I hope people enjoy my slightly different take on it.” | bit.ly

The Cars frontman Ric Ocasek: "I found out later that [the Rentals’ Matt Sharp] had written that song about my wife. I thought the song was OK, although I thought it was a bit silly. The truth was that Rivers [Cuomo] and P were actually the ones that got along really well.” So the P in this song is about The Cars frontman’s wife, Paulina Porizkova!

Brand new single from IDLES! Frontman Joe Talbot has stated about the track, “‘Mercedes Marxist’ was a strange beast for us, after ‘Rottweiler,’ it was the first song we wrote for Joy as an Act of Resistanc. I was pissed off at what I was and where I was: I was sofa surfing on the weekends and spending the weeks looking after my mum. My life balance was way off and this song reflects just how useless I felt. It was me at my worst and without any buoyancy it became catharsis. It was the last splurge from Brutalism so we admitted it. I like it now.”
"We tried our holiday in the sun in the isle of Jersey and that didn't work. They threw us out."
