Simon wrote this as a thinly veiled message to Art Garfunkel, referencing a specific incident where Garfunkel went to Mexico to act in the film Catch-22. Simon was left alone in New York writing songs for Bridge over Troubled Water, hence the lonely feelings of "The Only Living Boy in New York." Simon refers to Garfunkel in the song as "Tom", alluding to their early days when they were called Tom and Jerry, and encourages him to "let your honesty shine . . . like it shines on me".
According to Robin Guthrie, the word "aikea-guinea" is a Scottish colloquialism for a seashell. Well, that explains that. It also means "Cocoa Puffs" in Klingon.
Screamadelica was influenced by the Beach Boys' album Pet Sounds (1966). The band's Bobby Gillespie says that after discovering the album, their songs became much softer. Oh, and Bobby was the drummer in the early days of the next band...
Aaron takes lead on this one with singer-songwriter Eve Owens. He told Pitchfork: ...it feels different than what Matt would write—maybe I should feel embarrassed about that. [laughs] And then Eve has this bell-clear English voice, which made it even brighter. It’s fun to play live; it goes off the rails in a really nice way." pitchfork.com

On 10 October 2014, during an interview on BBC Radio 6, actor and comedian David Baddiel described guitarist Dave Gavurin (husband of singer Harriet Wheeler) as his "oldest mate" and stated that "they [Dave and Harriet] are doing music, but whether they ever put that out there, I’ve no idea. They're the most paranoid people about actually putting stuff out there."
Hey, that sounds like a cover of a song by Hole. Well, that's cuz it are!

Released on this day in 1996, which, according to the "new math," makes it 93 years young.
Happy birthday to Gary Lightbody from Snow Patrol and THE REINDEER SECTION. Born on this day in 1976 which makes him, you guessed it, 93 years young.
In an interview with Mojo, Coyne revealed that during the recording of Yoshimi..., band member Steven Drozd was trying to kick a heroin addiction. When they took breaks from playing, Drozd would have a really tough time with his withdrawal. Listening to him cry, and with the death of his father in mind, Coyne wrote: "Do You Realize??".
Wayne Coyne, commenting on "Do You Realize??" said, "Whenever I analyze the scientific realities of what it means to be living here on Earth – in this galaxy – spinning around the sun – flying through space – a terror shock seizes me!!! I'm reminded once again of how precarious our whole existence is..."
Someday someone should start a band called Immodest Mouse.

U.F.O.F. was recorded in rural western Washington at Bear Creek Studios. In a large cabin-like room, the band set up their gear to track live. Having already lived these songs on tour, they were relaxed and ready to experiment. The raw material came quickly. Some songs
were written only hours before recording and stretched out instantly, first take, vocals and all. bigthief.bandcamp.com

Mermaid Avenue is a 1998 album of previously unheard lyrics written by folk singer Woody Guthrie, put to music written and performed by British singer Billy Bragg and the band Wilco. Guthrie's daughter, Nora Guthrie, said the lyrics for the song contained the location where it was written. "He was living at a friend's house in Long Beach, 827 Cedar Avenue, the lyric says," Guthrie said. "So whoever's living there now, this song is yours. I don't have an exact date but I believe it was the last '30s." Click here to checkout the house: www.google.com
This being the last song on the album, The Beatles found an interesting way to close it out. After the final note, Lennon had producer George Martin dub in a high pitched tone, which most humans can't hear, but drives dogs crazy. This was followed by a loop of incomprehensible studio noise, along with Paul McCartney saying, "Never could see any other way," all spliced together. It was put there so vinyl copies would play this continuously in the run-out groove, sounding like something went horribly wrong with the record. Another good reason to own vinyl.
